I trying to figure out what does a capital "U" mean above the staff. First time I've ever seen that was last week on a song written by Prince, er, no...., I meant Ed Bolduc. That's where you go - "who?"

And if you're like other metal fans, you've since learned that the best music is some highly specific sub-sub-sub-genre of metal and all the other styles are inferior.![]()
Sounds exactly like my experience:In all seriousness, I dropped 20K on gear to make life easy for everyone, wrote charts for new songs and all everyone else had to do was turn up, do the gig and get paid, well paid I might add.
After all that effort and expense I still had band members complain about the most trivial things. Now of course those people have moved on and will say around others “gee I had it really good for a while there” but never to me or current members.
I thought people would be happy if they are treated nicely and paid very well, I was very, very wrong.

I don't think there's any doubt that certain musicians really are "naturally more talented than others" -- but that's totally independent of work/practice. The very best players are those who are both "naturally talented" AND work/practice hard.I used to think certain musicians were naturally more talented than others. The I asked them how much they practiced. Turns out it takes a lot of practice to be "naturally gifted".

I was playing an active bass with my dad one day and I mentioned it was about time to change the battery. He thought it was funny as hell that I had a battery powered bass....The first few basses I bought, during my first few years of playing, were all active...
