Double Bass Wasn't RED a GREAT Player?

talking of digital copies, I hesitate to write this, maybe it'll piss people off, but - for those of us poor Red Mitchell fans who can't find the Jim Hall duo anywhere, how about a talkbass special, somebody stick the tracks up on the internet for a short while, that we can download on the strict understanding that we'll definately buy a copy as soon as it comes into print?

I don't think you need to feel guilty about OOP copies, if the owner of the recording wants to be paid, it is on them to keep it in print. Kinda goes double if the artist is no longer with us. I believe artists need to be paid but I also believe music needs to be heard.
I only have an lp copy unfortunately, and no USB turntable - yet.

Sounds like a plan. I'll put it up some time this weekend when I have a second to breathe.

A couple of us (including Paul Warburton and myself) have contacted Red's widow, Diane, regarding a possible re-release of the duo CD. She manages sales of all of his recordings. Last time I talked to her, she very nicely said that there were no plans to release it at the time.

I wonder if she'd reconsider, given all the sustained interest in this great album. It would be nice to see it with the original packaging; it had some nice hand-colored photos of both guys playing, and some really cool liner notes as well.

I don't think it's overstating things to say that it's among the greatest jazz DB albums of all time. It still astounds me every time I give it a spin. Certainly it's one of Red's best performances.
