Way To Go Eden

Then it's the cabs. I don't like to cut through the mix...I want to punch the mix in the balls and beat my way through it ;)

I bet it's the cabs, never worked for me either. I've never understood your dislike for the heads as they are very warm and punchy, and not particularly heavily voiced IMO.

I'm very happy with the WT-550, just a solid and flexible little amp with a great DI.

I've heard the D210xst and compared it to my 210. The D210xst sounds awfull, like a hollow cardboardbox. You really need to tweak the tonecontrols to get something "ok" out of it. Those who still believe that you need a cab that "colors" to cut through drums and guitars I have a surprise for you. My 210 cab runs from 50-20.000hz within a +/-2dB range(studio specs) and has a very uniform and broad radiation pattern. This cab lets your bass "speak" more then those colouring Eden cabs and it cuts better through drums (yeah, I tested it side by side with the D210xst and also a budget eden 410). Also, due to the linear response I can shape my tone way more easy then with those Eden cabs.
The D210xst also farted out pretty fast.

Haven't tried a Bugera, but I disagree with pretty much everything else you've said here! ;) Different amps, basses, and taste I guess!

Pitty you were not there when I did the comparison, you probably agreed with what I said, the other people who where there did....

Tried the cabinets with my Bugera and with an Eden navigator + power amp. The basses were a Tobias 5-string, my Ibanez RD500 and SR1200.

“I heard some gear at a festival. It sounded great. It was even better than beloved titan brand 1.”

“No, you didn’t hear that. You don’t even know how to hear. Even if you did, what you heard was not from the gear you think you heard.”

“It was from that gear.”

“Impossible. Never happened. Couldn’t happen.”

I especially dislike TB when thread topics of admiration for one brand turn into a mudsling by detractors. The mudsling is member vs. member, as well as gear vs. gear.

Then, the commercials begin. This thread would have been much cooler had the admired gear been praised in the context of itself. There are many good posts in this thread, by those with true experience, agreeing with the OP’s admiration.

It reminds me of a classic car show. Someone reports their admiration of a certain car. Others retort in their admiration of another competing car. Then, competing cars are insulted. Then, admirers of the car are insulted. It’s a rooster dance. You know. . . a man thang.

“Rye bread is best.” “No, wheat bread . . . “ To infinity.

I would be a hypocrite to say I have never done this. And, my public and private spankings by "certain powers," have resulted in my attempt at reformation through self-moderation.

Unless the brand is the champion of a mudslinger, the song is always the same. Some may recognize the melody of a chorus of a more current song by Chris Tomlin, with modified lyrics. The mudslinger theme chorus:

My gear is greater, my gear is stronger
My gear is higher than any other
My gear is champion, awesome and power
My gear, My gear...

Your gear is lesser, your gear is weaker
Your gear is lower, you must be a tweaker
Your gear is feeble, weakling and coward
Your gear, your gear...

I certainly understand and agree with tonal admiration expressed by the OP. And, I confess a fondness for certain Eden gear. And, I enjoy seeing these cool Eden rigs, and related anecdotes.

However, I question the OP’s need for comparison to someone else’s beloved gear, especially since that other gear has historic and current GREATNESS.

And now, I question the true intent of the thread. It doesn’t appear to be a pure admiration thread, as the original premise pits someone’s beloved gear against another’s beloved gear.

Hmmm. . . I can’t believe it has taken me this long to recognize this.

?? A friend of mine rocks a pair of XSTs with a GK800RB and his tone is amazing. But hey - if you can't get a good sound out if em I believe you.

There was a time when I borrowed a friend's two 210XST cabs with an intention to buy and dismissed them as not sounding good, I never bought them, In retrospect, I wish I had. Tone is always situational depending on the players taste, genre of music etc. and no one's opinion in this matter is right or wrong.

Eden gear has always sounded pretty good to me, as has SWR and EBS gear, but that is because I generally prefer a more modern clean tone. I would choose an eden cab over say, an ampeg cab any day of the week but thats because it is more likely to meet my tone goals, YMMV

Sometimes something does not sound so amazing anymore when you compare it to something better...
Not saying that the combo of your friend would be bad ( I have not heard it so I can't tell).

We also compared my 210 against a 410xst(or maybe it was the xst, can't remember). This Eden cab is from a popular dutch bassplayer who has tried almost every cab outthere because dealers would send him samples to test. After playing two notes the bassplayer turned his head and his jaw dropped because he could not believe how good it sounded.

My cab will also be not for everyone (no cab does), it's not only a matter of taste but also a matter of how you want to control your sound in a live situation (with a PA)
