WBC crashing Dio's funeral

But I recognize that these ******** are extreme and way beyond the fringe when compared to your run of the mill conservative Christian group. I'm sure very few of their nominal peers would support or associate with them.

Correct a mundo

Seems like they are acting like modern day pharasees to me. I thought Jesus came to save. Not condemn. I think I remember reading, Jesus hung out with sinners and outcasts

Jesus would have never done anything like that. The only people He got after were the religious pharisee's pretending to be hoiyier than though

I listened to MANY MANY a Dio song before I became a christian. ( I wore out, "Man on the Silver Mountain" on my turntable as a kid )

No I did not listen to him after i became a christian. I would not condone what theese people are doing though.

You cannot judge people like that

Matthew 7:1
Judge not, that ye be not judged.

The pharisee loves to be self righteous though. Pointing their finger and looking down on a person. Exalting themself as better than most folk

Shame on you WBC

Being from the UK but having several American friends who are Christians (as am I, in the sense of a follower and believer of Christ) I've heard a bit about these guys and can only say what has already been said:

They do NOT display any of the characteristics of Jesus, traits which all Christians are supposed to aspire to. Not to get all scriptural but the Bible does make mention of false teachers using the Lord's name falsely and to me this stinks of that.

I am also very pleasantly surprised and proud of the reactions of TBers on here, whether religious or not you guys seem to be responding very maturely and measured (heck, even I chuckled at the thought that hammers would be a just result for these guys, even if I wouldn't condone it) and so I applaud you all for seeing through their blatant bigotry and misuse of the term church and Christian.

God Bless, BB

Now i'm not religious at all, but from what I know of the bible, this is absolutely 100% reserving their place in hell.

Is it wrong to want to wipe them from existence?

On a side note, it's horribly sad we can't protest their funerals - they don't have any.

I'm not a fan of Christianity, but I think this is way too far, and I don't view it as a good representation of the Christian faith. Extremists exist everywhere, and it startles me that in this day we still see such... inbred fervor, for lack of a better way to describe it.

This is the problem living in a place with free speech, everyone has it, but its often the most offensive who speak loudest... (not to say that I don't love/support free speech in all forms, but people should find some sort of moral ground when they're in public eye.)

In case no one else has gotten to this; last night, jarrod asked...
whats the name of the motorcycle group that strong arms at military funerals to keep the wbc at bay ? they were just in alabama a few weeks ago . but i cant remember who they are . seems like a combo of a lot of clubs all in one .
...and I think the group he's referring to are the Patriot Riders - they have a web address (patriotguard.org), but I can't get the site to come up.

Ok guys, as the OP, I'm going to need to ask for less of the negativity towards religion etc. everyone has their own beliefs, which is more than fair, but please try to avoid statements such as 'religion brings wars etc.'
I dunno about you guys, but I'm a bassist that likes to chill out, drink herbal tea, burn some incense and play bass whilst eating vegetarian curry. I try to understand and argue for and against each side.
One example is that the common ideology that 'Christianity/Religion is bad because it starts wars'...let's disect this...
Premise;
War is bad,
Religious differences are one of the many reasons wars may start,
THEREFORE religion is bad

From an article a friend wrote; Atheist Reasoning for God's Existence
Premise;
Religion is bad
Charles Darwin was raised a christian and allegedly reverted on his death bed
Therefore; Charles Darwin is bad?

Simplifying it using that logic makes it all seem rather foolish doesn't it?
I am neither for nor against Religion, I embrace REASON; the only difference between a good atheist (not to be confused with an ANTI-THEIST) and a good christian, muslim or jew is that one of them believes in God.

Funnily enough, my favourite quote on God was by Nietzsche of all people
“I would believe only in a God that knows how to dance.”
And with that, let's all focus on our current enemy...a church of inbreds from Kansas.

^^ That was a very well put statement and I commend it. ^^

The WBC's type of extremism taints the name of Christianity and all faiths for that matter but I strongly believe it is for those who listen to reason and who properly express the beliefs if their faith (whether that be a faith in the existence of a God or not) to show them up for their ignorance and hatred in as peaceful and measured way as possible so that their misconduct can be properly revealed for all who to see.

Although WBC makes my stomach turn with their blatant mis-quoting of scriptures and hate filled perspectives which contradict the very book they (out of context) use as justification, reacting to their hatred with similar hatred, even if it's a view held by a majority, seems illogical to me.

Phelps & Co. certainly aren't mainstream Xtians, but their core philosophy isn't that different from other Xtian fringe sects that emphasize the Old Testament over the New

They have little use for anything Jesus of Nazareth said or did, preferring to give their loyalty and obedience to the vindictive God who was in the habit of commanding his followers to do things like commit genocide upon an entire tribe

For example:

1 Samuel 15:2-3

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys"

I have met many Christians of both types. In my experience, those who emphasize the New Testament and strive to live by the examples shown there - mercy, forgiveness, tolerance, deeds not words - are generally pretty nice folks. Those who emphasize the Old Testament are not....

It is well to note that WBC derives all of their "justification" for their actions from the most bloodthirsty and extreme passages of the Old Testament

Also, to clarify for anyone who was curious, I believe that the WBC is a 5-point Calvinist organization, not a roman-catholic or a protestant one

You are mistaken. Calvinism is a branch of Protestant Christianity

Last I noticed, there are approximately 100 of us that have gone so far as to join the Atheist Bass Players Club

The only reason that you cannot find the original thread is that it was necessary for the mods to hide it - an unfortunate result of too many attacks from religious extremists on this board

Phelps is no fool. All of the members of his cult (and that's exactly what this is) have to donate 10 percent of their earnings. He is living high off the hog spewing his perverted form of religion to these brainwashed inbred morons. Everyone has the right to free speech in America but I still hope some group beats the living $hit out of these losers.
