WBC crashing Dio's funeral

I remember when these pig fornicators showed up at a military funeral locally...once the press announced they were coming, a whole bunch of people showed up and did a counter protest, basically smothering these folks. I can only hope there's a counter protest where the RJD funeral is.

There shouldn`t be a need for a counter protest. I`m all for freedom of speech, but this is just wrong. People should be allowed to bury their loved ones with respect and privacy.

All I know is, it takes a REAL sphincter to be disrespecting the dead for the sake of pushing one's own unrelated political agenda.

A friend of mine recently died entirely the wrong way (mugged then run over twice), and I was amazed at the way certain bloggers who'd never met him were posthumously slandering him.

Some folks just don't have any class, whatsoever. :scowl:

You know what would impress me? If all of the Christians who sit around saying "the WBC are not true Christians, please don't judge the rest of us from the WBC's behavior" would actually do something about it. Hold an intervention. Get some professional deprogrammers and reeducate these brainwashed clods. Officially denounce them from a world-respected Christian pulpit. Form the same kind of human barriers at WBC protests that are currently formed by biker gangs. Stand up for what you believe in, if you don't want to be judged as complicit.

They have been denounced time and time again by Christian leaders across the spectrum of Christianity. I've attended two counter protests to the WBC and his bunch organized by a variety of local churches. My question about the WBC is this. They have less then 100 members, most of which are extended family (they are more a family cult then an organized religious group), they can't get two dozen people to show up at a protest, and yet almost every-time they protest the media is there with its cameras, and they receive a totally disproportionate amount of national coverage. We have local protests around here of all types that will draw three to four times the amount of protestors and never get coverage by the media, Why do you (Talkbassers) believe that is?

much agreed - for as much as I think these people are wacked, it is their right to be so. above belief, we should respect one another. that gets lost all too often . . .

i almost wish zakk wylde would show up and run them down with a motorcycle. we need a metalocalypse style bloodbath.

As much as I'm not a fan of Mr. Wylde, this seems much more than appropriate. HATE those WBC buttholes.

When they die, lets protest their funerals.

Nah, throw overly-excessive parties right outside of them. That'll offend some families :)

Also, to clarify for anyone who was curious, I believe that the WBC is a 5-point Calvinist organization, not a roman-catholic or a protestant one.

Definitely not catholics...taken from wikipedia:
The WBC describes the Roman Catholic Church as, "the largest, most well-funded and organized pedophile group in the history of man" [50] and goes on to say that, "There are over 1 billion Catholics in the world—that's one out of every six people alive today—and every single one of them will split Hell wide open when they die—period. And there is nothing they can do about it."

It seems I'm going to "split hell wide open when I die" and that there is no redemption for me and other 1 billion people...:rollno:

i am a non believer (not athiest, i just studied many religions and actually think the old world religions suit me better :)) but i was brought up with respect.

like the man or loathe him, give him his last respects in a respectful way. if they believe he is in hell then to them he has already been judged and punished, leave the grievers alone to actually greave their loss, be it family friends of fans of the mans work.

these 'people' call themselves a 'church' the only aspect of the church about them is in the name. zealots are just as bad as sinners if you believe the written word :)

but it is a sad situation where a group of people are judging a man by their lifestyle and condemning him without even meeting him. just a bunch of sphyincters if you ask me.

Makes me glad to be an atheist..

Right there with you. Perhaps we should get together and celebrate our non-belief system? Sunday works best for me, how about you g...

Oh. ;)

The WBC web site then proceeds to list "admitted sins of this now dead and in hell pervert: 1) He hates his neighbor(s)... (Emphasis Mine)

Pot, this is a very nice Kettle who was polite to everyone and had a wonderful singing voice. I hear you've been calling him something.

I'd like to say I'm in shock, but having known far too much about the WBC than I would like I can't say that I'm surprised in the least - I was a Poly Sci major in school and took a course on Extremist Right-Wing Groups & Cults that focused on them a great deal. As Marco previously mentioned I've also seen the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] by Louis Theroux who spent a week immersed in the church and got some pretty startling answers from members outside of the "on the street-corner, shouting" arena. I'll warn you, a pretty strong stomach is needed to view the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

"Westboro Baptist Church": Yet Another Part Of The Midwest That Wouldn't Last 5 Minutes If Relocated Into NYC" :D

Jesus had much harsher things to say to people like the WBC (super-religious folks who condemn other people) than he did to the run-of-the-mill sinners of his day. I'm sure that irony is completely lost on Fred Phelps and his gang... Wonder if they've ever read Luke 18:9-14?

And I heard someone else say it first, but at this point I would feel kind of proud if the WBC protested my funeral.

I won't have a problem with some angry metal heads bum rushing a police line to go bust some "Baptist' skulls. I don't know about "God's will" but I do believe in karma/just desserts. These ******** have some debts to pay sooner or later; I am hoping for the former.

I wholeheartedly agree. It irritates me beyond words when groups like Phred's bend every letter and intent of the law to ram themselves into people's lives, especially solemn occasions like funerals, but scream about their own rights being impinged on when people throw the attitude back at them.

I agree.

Well you guys are getting all riled up, falling into their lawyer trap.

Oh well, at least now I know I'm not the only atheist on here. After seeing 50 pages of the praise and worship club, I was beginning to wonder...
