We have too many cops.

Why not front plate photo-radars? No front plate, and it snaps a picture of your car's rear plate, sends in the bill, and no additional cop is needed. You still get your chicken**** ticket for doing something illegal, and the appropriate number of officers can focus on people more important than you.

I keed, I keed :D
Honestly, (and this may sound a little conspiracy theorist) I believe that I'm getting pulled over for the lack of the front plate because of the recent increased installation of stop light cameras in our city.

I believe that they're trying to ensure against loss of potential revenue.

I'm glad all the eagle scouts in this thread appreciate the important role that cops are playing in protecting the world from the ravages of insufficient placarding. I still think it's chicken****.

And you're welcome to think that, just as I'm welcome to think that the most important aspect of being "represented" is representing yourself first and foremost. To each his own. :)

Too many damn cops. Agreed. I saw a man cuffed, spread eagle and completely searched for...yep you guessed it J WALKING! not kidding. guy walked across the street, one cop pulled into the parking lot he walked into. Another cop pulls up within 5 minutes and they hassle the f*ck out of this man.

One of the most flagrant displays of pig feces I've ever seen.

Because everyone knows, if it's typed anonymously on the internet, it MUST be true.

I've been pulled over three times in the last six months for not having a front license plate. On two different cars. First time I've ever had cops pull me over for this in my years as a driver, and I've been driving the same car (without a front plate) for a decade.

Don't ever let anyone tell you we need more cops on the street, we've got far too many if this is how they utilize their manpower.

I love this guy.

Commits a driving offense (an extremely obvious one, at that), then complains about the cops when he gets cited for said offense.

I love this guy.

Do you ever work to try to change these rules you despise so much, or do you just like to complain about them? One would think that someone with as much angst as you seem to have would be more proactive.....snicker.........

The plate is due to get attached. I've got a ticket for it, I don't want it compounding and getting ugly. That was never really my point though.

My point is about law enforcement's increase in attention to minor infractions. I haven't actually been written up for a moving violation in years but I notice I've been pulled over a lot more for minor violations: license plate light burned out, "failure to signal," no front plate, etc.

Busting a high speed u-turn and throwing on the overheads to let me know I've got a headlight out is borderline silly, but at least I appreciate the public safety aspect of it. The front plate thing just seems like a prime example of excessive enforcement.

I'm glad all the eagle scouts in this thread appreciate the important role that cops are playing in protecting the world from the ravages of insufficient placarding. I still think it's chicken****.

It's called "visible enforcement", and it works. Plus, they get to hassle you little anarchists every once in a while for kicks!!!

I'm going to go against the current on this thread and say that I think there aren't enough cops. I see too many people every day endangering public safety (most importantly, my safety) by driving faster than the posted speed limit, not coming to a complete stop at stop signs, trying to hold conversations with passengers while driving, and yes, even having NO front plate on their vehicle.

There are currently about 5 million unemployed adults in the U.S. who desperately need a job and I think the perfect solution is to give each of them an 8 hour training course in law enforcement and then issue them a badge and a gun, deputize them and send them out to take care of all the scofflaws.

Benefits:

1) It puts unemployed people to work.
2) It pays for itself with all the new ticket revenue that will be generated.
3) It makes our society safer.

Everybody wins!

I love this guy.

Commits a driving offense (an extremely minor one, at that), then complains about the cops when he gets cited repeatedly for said offense.

I love this guy.

Did the cops change their minimum requirement for pulling people over, or did you just hit a string of bad ones? One would think that someone with as many real crimes to prevent they would be more distracted.....snicker.........
I fixed it for you.:)

if you think there are too many police,
check out the stats in the public announcement i made the soundtrack to,
linked below.
swat are being far over-used by the police, this is a public service announcement aimed at awareness and to petition for reform.
the mayor of baltimore had his house raided, his dogs murdered, his family shackled-
and it was a mistake.
despite all this, i do not think there are too many cops at all,
just not enough accountability.... well, it is a fraternity after all...
my uncle was a chief of police in the 70's and 80's, he was booted from the force because officers under him were dealing drugs and caught.
anyway, here ya go:

This is so ridiculous. Unrepresented got stopped for a perfectly legitimate reason. He was in violation of the law. Simple as that. The law doesn't say "everyone has to have a front plate, except Unrepresented." Stop acting like it does.

I just got a ticket for an illegal left turn (I had forgotten that in my hometown, at certain corners, you're not allowed to turn left between 3:30 and 6:30 PM), but you don't see me whining about it. I broke the law (albeit unintentionally) and the cop did his job and pulled me over. A pain in the ass? Yes. But excessive enforcement? No.

I hate police brutality as much as the next guy, but I'd hardly call routine pullovers for road violations that.

Let me tell you about police brutality.

Last year I had a cop sit on my head and fart, for absolutely no good reason.

Well, other than the fact that he was my brother and I'd done the same thing to him countless times growing up.
