Wearing a mask, yes or no.

I wear wrap around safety glasses. On calls with a lot of potential fluid spray or splash, a face shield. Gloves are also on my out in the hot zone fashion-less accessories. They are useful. Put them on before leaving the car. Leave them on until just before re-entering the car. Observe social distancing guidelines. You can wash your hands with gloves on or wipe them down if you are think that they are loaded. When you get home, wash your produce. If you start to think about all of the shared surfaces even in just going to fuel up the car, it is overwhelming, but whatever you do to help protect yourself is better than not trying. I am not an OCD guy or any sort of germophobe, buy if I found out that I was making my neighbors sick, I would not be happy about it. The average age in my lil' town at last census count was 69.5. I am one of the kids at 48. That makes the average townie her high risk, outside of any other pre-existing health conditions.
I try not to use my N95's for anything but emergency calls and tight spots where folks refuse to keep their distances or a small space that I will be spending some time in. Anything is better than nothing. From what I have read, the amount of the virus you are exposed to can affect how badly you are infected. If I had my druthers, I would prefer a minimal infection. There are tests now for active infection, best saved for those with symptoms. The test to watch is the blood test for the presence of resisting antibodies. Once you can confirm you have had the virus, you can still spread it for other folks, but at least you know that you will very likely not be reinfected.

Had to go pick up some medicine for someone today. In light of the recent call to mask up coupled with our governor (finally) declaring a shelter in place edict, I decided to be a good citizen and obey the rules. TBH I don’t think it will be much help, but i finally get to wear my work clothes on my day(s) off...
I ordered masks last week from two different sources, eBay and Etsy. My wife and I are hoping that they arrive before we have to leave the house again. We have been having groceries delivered, but locally none of the stores are currently able to take any orders. One of us will need to venture out for perishables in the next few days.
Im seeing too many people wearing skulls, fangs, Joker grins, Stars and Stripes, keffiyeh with AKs crocheted them this weekend.

my husband, who never sews anything, made a mask yesterday using a hepa vacuum filter. turns out they're made of coated fiberglass, so not sure the fibers can't be breathed in, but he's thoroughly taped the cut edges. he included a bendy piece of flat metal to fit the nose, and it fit pretty well.
today he made one using one layer of t-shirt material and one layer of cotton dish towel. it didn't fit quite as well, but he's figuring that out - it fit perfectly except for the sides - and it's hard to breathe through. i guess he'll be experimenting more.

they list vacuum cleaner bags and dish towels near the top of effectiveness, tshirts and scarves lower. they say that scientists concluded that using two layers of dish towel was very effective but had a problem with breathability.
we have some of THE most common dish towels in the universe - 100% cotton, red stripes on the ends, not all that absorbent. the same kind everyone's mothers and grandmothers used in 1962. i just got a clean one, doubled it up and breathed through it, and i found it more breathable than 2 layers of tshirt or an N95 mask. maybe a layer of tshirt and a layer of hepa bag? but two layers of dish towel means the masks could be washed...

Here in SoCal, your employer has to provide mask if you are working for a company that is considered Essential. They just enacted that a few days ago. The problem is, it is hard to find mask right now for the employer to purchase.
Yes when going to the store or place where interaction is required.

Make the mask of whatever works and line it with a coffee filter. A doctor we know and her colleagues are using them successfully after they ran out of medical masks.
