Looks like Gibson wanted to get in on some of that sweet, sweet 1970s "pawnshop bass" money.![]()
That thing needs a chiropractor bad! Talk about an offset design.I’m not sure how mass produced this bass was, but what were they thinking with this crooked body design.

Yamaha SBV 500 series... and I wish they come back...
That's because they make a T-40 seem like a Hofner. You need a forklift to get one out of the case. They tried three different body styles with this bass and it still never caught on. I love them.

That's okay. I only came in to point out that there is no 'h' in "wacky" ("whack" is a completely separate word), but those first examples stopped me in my tracks.
Also, I agree with you re: the Acinonyx. Probably well made & sounds good, but they sure look odd to me.
Rickenson/Jacksonbacker. I remembered this jewel after seeing the post by @Killing Floor

every time I see it. And even if it was an original design I would probably not have liked that pointed headstock on an otherwise "vintage" looking bass.View attachment 5416609
Danelectro longhorn basses are in a bunch of shops, used around these Texas parts.
Why wouldn’t one use it while playing across the neck? And a single cut access to B on upper frets is no different than a double cutaway. You’re not using your thumb.Curiosity, why would one use a b string above the 14th fret?
Great for all of those Thunderdome gigs! Works of art!Michael Spalt basses. I own these two (for now). Top is a Terminator 5. It's a series he does. The bottom one, Thuya Bass, has a whammy bar and Sustainiac. It's one-of-a-kind.

Hey Chris Squire player a Kramer Ferrington! That is the reason I bought one in the 80’s. I had a nice burst, #89 made in Neptune NJ. It never played well as an acoustic and made horrible feedback when plugged in.
That Goya headstock looks like the Nordstrand short scale, I guess that was an influence.

Uh, the entire Nordstrand Acynonyx is a self-declared reimagining of the (Zerosette) Goya Panther. That Goya headstock looks like the Nordstrand short scale, I guess that was an influence.
