I blame it on the immodestly dressed women that I am sinfully staring at

I ws pondering what to play, and by the time I figured it out, that moment had passed.
Actually, yesterday I had a couple brain farts, and the real reason...In learning tunes, I go through a period of learning (1) , a period (2) in which I know the tune well enough to play it provided I'm paying attention, and then (eventually) get to (3) where it's automatic - I'm no longer consciously thinking about the notes, I'm just there, playing music If I know the tune well enough, you can change thekey, and..still works.
Yesterday, I was in 2, but mentally, had moved on to 3 - I was trusting I had it in automatic mode, before I was quite there - is it another verse or chorus next?.Second service, I paid attention (we do have the words scrolling on screens in the back of the place - duh!), and all was fine.

When you have every intention of hitting a note, but, for some reason, it either doesn’t happen or you play the wrong one. Kinda like missing the point, I suppose.
My usual excuse is sunspots.
But, the best one I've ever seen was blaming it on mind-control satellites. But you have to have a roll of tinfoil and make a hat to pull that off... Pass the foil into the crowd, they like making hats too.

I do it three times, call it jazz, and no longer need an excuse.
I just look at my guitarist like he did something wrong.
I'm just gonna leave this here...if you get to the end you'll see why...
It's not the missed notes I worry about, it's the more outstanding ones that concern me. My band refers to the off notes as "artifacts." We record every practice, it can sometimes be a painful experience.

I'm always distracted by keeping an eye on the crowd coming and going, worrying about other band members making mistakes, watching the Bartenders trying to hear drink orders wondering if we're too loud, seeing if food is flowing out of the kitchen, food smelling good going by the "stage".
I have a hard time letting go of the "business" side when I'm on stage.

Who's so insecure they need to make excuses?
If someone calls me out on it I just say "yep, my bad" and move on.
This happens on about 1% of the notes I miss.
