I keep all my notes in a lockable ammo box and only take them out for Important Gigs.
They very seldom go missing, but a lot of times you can get replacements on sale at The WalMarks.

When you have every intention of hitting a note, but, for some reason, it either doesn’t happen or you play the wrong one. Kinda like missing the point, I suppose.

I miss them all the time, and offer no excuses. BTW, I have never worked with a musician in over 5 decades that hasn’t, or at least played something in really poor musical taste, meaning it may have been intended, but convention gives it a big thumbs down.

I don't make excused anymore I just play on. Nobody has said anything to me so if figure if I don't bring it up they won't. Could be a reflection of the other part time musicians I play with.

And for the record - playing the wrong note because you are inept is NOT jazz. And playing the wrong note twice doesn't fool anyone; they just think you are too stupid to learn from your mistakes.

Yeah, the "play the same mistake twice" approach really doesn't work as well as some people seem to think. Whenever I hear someone do it I cringe.
