Doesn't seem like the most appropriate music for everyone, but after my good friend passed, "Wavering Radiant" by ISIS has been my go to. I feel like it can tell the story of his life with the music. The ups-and downs really take me there to remember all the times. The very last song, "Threshold of Transformation" still gets me.
For better or worse, I hope it helps.
My go-to album (cd? mp3?) has been Eat a Peach by Allman Brothers. Nearly anything by the Beatles would be high on my list as well.

I went through a downtime in my early 30's after the death of a girlfriend and the purchase of a packaged cd of Seal and Seal II brought me back (it helped that she was a fan).

My sincerest condolences. My mom and died two weeks apart, it spun my noodle for a loop. While there was no particular album that kept me functional I listened to a to of hard core older country music. Please take care of yourself.
Let me just express sympathy and encouragement in your tough times. I'm sure you know the old quote "when you're going through hell, keep going". Musically, I tend to wallow when sad, so my choices are more of the sadsack insomniac variety: Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, Frightened Rabbit, that sort of thing.
