A lot of Bazra lately. I really like their bassist, but they don't seem to be very well-known and it's difficult to find their albums for realistic prices.

I do like patterns - and that pattern got me well over six hours of great jammin!
Oh yeah, for me its Crippled Black Phoenix. It sounds like a metalband that would employ someone playing the mothman, but it is in fact a postrock thing. Sounds a lot like Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

They've been kind of a mainstay for me since the mid 90's, but last night on my way home from rehearsal, our jazz station here played some Nils Landgren & his Funk Unit. I got home and looked up a bunch more, real tight old-school-ish funk with the bassist serving most of the lead vox duties and some killer trumpet from Nils.
It was refreshing to hear some newer funk.
I'll have to check them out, I've never heard of any newer bands doing straight up funk, I'm interested in hearing what they do

been listening to Earth and Sunn O))) I'm not sure if Sunn can be defined as music but I like it

i bought the entire set of album releases by led zeppelin this week, so have been listening and playing along to that pretty much solidly.
