Wife asked me to start putting together my Christmas list and I'm thinking about adding a new bass. Nothing crazy expensive, less than $2000 certainly. But based on what I already have below, what would YOU recommend I add to my collection? New/current production only please. I couldn't imagine her looking for an old/vintage instrument lol

I was thinking his list is 4 too many and one too short...Well... I don't see RICKENBACKER on that list....
(play one first, though; we don't need another grumpy ex-Rick owner around here...)

I just want to add "no one mention Thunderbird" then I see this. I mean, you could go Epi 60s Thunderbird and Epi Jack Casidy. With that his collection completed.
I bought my a Sandberg forty eight and it’s a great place to jump from the FSO stuff. Neck is great, build is great and most importantly sounds great but also really familiar. Even though it’s shaped like a thunderbird.Sandberg. They'll make you anything you want. Nothing plays better. I have two and they make it tough to play anything else. They take awhile to get, 8 or 9 months typically, but worth it.
Edit: And yes, these are production basses, it's just that they have a backlog so they build them to order with custom features.
Their Jazz bass is called a TT, and can really cop a p bass sound as well, which I find useful. You can get it with a MM pickup in the bridge position.
They make a Superlight model, bringing the weight to around 6.5 lbs, give or take. Any of their basses can be ordered as an SL, although they don't advertise it.
You can ask for anything you might want, and if they can do it, they'll give you a price for it.
Some places have them in stock, like Bass Central.
Prices will vary from 1500ish to low 2000s depending on model, options and dealer discount.
Sandbergs are awesome. Can't recommend them higher.
