just because he wears black doesn't mean he'd wear a black bass. I think he would go with a high gloss finish on natural wood or a super-modern instrument like a carbon fiber molded bass

What bass would James Bond play?

Something that looks standard, but classy, like a P in black/maple, with covers, but complelty full of technology & gadgets.
Carbon fiber neck(covered with maple, of course), Hipshot D-tuner/Ultralights, piezo bridge, hidden bridge humbucker(with series/parallel, of course), chambered body, active pre hidden in the rear etc......

Well, regarding the "just because he wears black doesn't mean he'd play a black/white bass" argument... While the black tuxedo may well be (and is, in fact) a staple Bond look, he wear a simple, classic grey wool suit far more often. But I still see him most likely playing a classy, glossy black bass, with a white PG... probably a maple fretboard with black or white blocks. A Geddy would work, though I picture him more with a P or a Ric. I could see a natural finish, too, but nothing with too flashy a grain pattern (a la 70's jazz with ash/maple... something more like the VM jazz... a little more subtle). On the flashier side, a CAR P with bridge and ashtray covers could work. And an upright bass? Yep, I could definitely see that, too. Anything modern, carbon fiber, that kinda thing? No way. Not Bond at all. Now the real question is where on stage would he stand? Stage left? Stage right? Wherever is closest to the bar...

It would play itself (so he can talk to the women)
It would produce drinks (or atleast hold them)
Probably conceal a machine gun and other assorted vital items necessary to complete the msision
And, at the end of the scene, he could climb in it and use it as his vehicle in some sort of high speed chase.

James Bond ain't drivin' no German cars...good as they might be... British all the way and everybody knows that. I'm just bummed that he never drove a McLaren F1 in any of his movies...
