Goose Island is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries and this is a perfect example as to why.
Had one of these last night:

I had gone into the shop near my apartment to grab some wine and saw some of the new Harpoon stuff. Ended up coming away with the wheat. The oyster idea wasn't sounding great to me. But a day or so later curiosity got the better of me so I had to try it out.
To be honest it really tasted like a standard stout, strong on the coffee flavors, but it was very well balanced. Not overly sweet. My wife - the stout hater - actually enjoyed this one.

i discovered Sierra Nevada Porter by accident last night - lovely stuff. i think i even prefer it to their Pale Ale!
I've posted this once I believe and I don't want to be a buzzkill but (Link Removed). GI makes some good craft beer and I'm hoping they will continue but I have my doubts.
I really hope all A-B plans on doing is giving them more space and equipment while not trying to get their dirty hands all over GI's recipes.
i discovered Sierra Nevada Porter by accident last night - lovely stuff. i think i even prefer it to their Pale Ale!
Didn't their porter used to be blue? (The label of course).
Sam Adams Summer Pack-
East-West Kolsh- Bright and floral, almost too floral. Not overly good or bad, but I won't go out seeking it.
Rustic Saison- A little less floral than the Kolsh with some good citrus notes. Probably my favorite out of the pack.
Summer Ale- Kind of basic when compared to either of the other 2; however, it had a better balance than both.
Latitude 48 IPA- Meh. I'm not an IPA guy, someone that is would've probably had much better appreciation for it.
The pack also had a Sam and a Sam light. Sam light is about the only "light" beer I drink.

This + discontinuing special smaller batch brews that may only get done once per year. I was less than pleased when I heard too.
I couldn't find the Apocalypse Cow by Three Floyds Brewing that I wanted so I went with their Arctic Panzer Wolf IIPA. Never had it either so I'm looking forward to it.

Panzer Wolf is amazing.
I rode a school bus to Dark Lord Day at the Three Floyds Brewery a few weeks ago. The day is best summed up with a guy opening one of these at 8:45 in the morning, walking down the aisle of the bus, saying, "Panzer Wolf? Panzer Wolf?" and pouring samples to anyone who held a cup out.
Apocalypse Cow is a fine DIPA, a little goofy because of the milk sugar involved. It's released each June, so that's why you didn't see any yet. Panzer Wolf and Dreadnaught are their other two DIPAs, and they are brewed on a rotating schedule, so you can usually find either but rarely both. If you see both, one of them is old. I've had all three, but it's been a while since I had Apocalypse Cow. Panzer Wolf is my favorite, though they're all really great.

don't know! I'm a big fan of porter in general and of SN pale ale, but never realised they made porter. i guess it's been around a while, but IME until recently we didn't get many good US beers over here.
on a side note i *love* the US microbrew culture. in the UK most small breweries are very much "real ale" only - which is good, but i like pilsner/porter/stout/lager/weissbier etc too...
Yes it is. Opened/poured about 10 minutes ago at fridge temp. Great color and lacing is on point. Very piney and bitter and getting moreso while it warms up.
Thanks for the heads up on the Apoc Cow release in June. I'll be looking for it. The lactose seems weird but I'll try most anything twice. I've had the Dreadnaught and liked it as well. I'm in N. KY and need to make the trip up to FFF brewery but there is the issue of that pasky drive home.

Smooth, fairly balanced, slightly hoppy, but not overly so (FWIW, I'm NOT an IPA/hoppy beer fan, a bit is good, more is too much - more of a porter/ale guy). A good beer, maybe great for those more in touch with their pilsner/lager side than myself. Won't be repeating it, as I prefer the other Chimay offerings by a wide margin.

It was a bit too sweet even for her delicate palate. I agree, it's more of a "dessert beer" than a BEER. Not bad in any way, just not what you would expect coming out of a beer bottle, and under the right circumstances, I'd repeat it - as a dessert! Now I want to try the other Sam Smith fruit ales, just to try 'em...
