Recently I've enjoyed a Midnight Sun Brewing Monks Mistress which is a Belgian style dark ale. Hard to find outside of AK but a huge tasting dark Belgian. 11.5% too which is pretty serious. I find it's better when it starts to warm up a bit.

Also had Sierra Nevada Hoptimum which is supposedly the happiest beer that your feeble human tongue can perceive without imploding at 100 IBUs. Very tasty and flavorful on too of the hops, oddly not as overpowering as I had thought it would be.

Yesterday I had Creemore springs pilsner, a nice pilsner (even though the brewery is owned by molson coors) that actually has some refreshing hops in it.

Last week I also tried Great Lakes (in Toronto) brewery's Devil's Pale Ale. It was damn good, and also sufficiently hoppy for me. Of course, it's not often that I get "hoppy beers" at the moment, I'm just glad that there are some beers I can find that actually HAVE noticeable hops in them.

The Devil made me brew it!!

I really like Devil's Pale Ale. Big and hoppy! Can't wait to get to Ottawa in couple of weeks and drink a few. Another Toronto beer I've been liking lately is Mill Street's Tankhouse Ale. Not quite as hoppy as DPA but nice all the same.

I still suggest anyone who hasn't tried it to make a trip down to their local Walgreens to pick themselves up a 6pk of Big Flats. At $4 a 6er, it HAS to be good ;)

Precisely, maybe not too hoppy in comparison to some brews I've had from the US, but when it's compared to some of the other options I tend to have (where the hoppiest thing they usually have is Alexander Keith's), I'd grab this one without thinking twice about it. I really dig Tankhouse Ale too, they're both on the hoppy end of pale ales, and I really dig it. Wellington's Special Pale Ale is also pretty nice. I think my favourite mill st. brew is their Coffee Porter though.

belgian style abbey ale

has kinda a sweet malt thing with just a hint of hops too.
dark amber in color
real smooth not as strong as i expected. i was hoping for more malt based on the smell and color, but it just stayed sweet and smooth.

over all not bad. kinda wish it was more bitter.

Like I always say: "There's nothing like a good IPA and Keith's is nothing like a good IPA!" I'm in the same situation We don't get much in the line of craft beer from anywhere, which means I tend to go overboard when travelling. They recently started carrying Tankhouse here, which makes me happy. Now if they'd only pick up Red Racer... :D

Locally, Quidi Vidi brewery makes a pretty decent British IPA. Not as hoppy as the US variants but nice and bitter. Too bad it's a very limited run seasonal.

I have a question for the wise.

I like a few 750ml corked Belgian beers, mostly saisons and tripels. I seem to have a good amount of foam explosion when I open them. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I don't mind that there's foam, but I'm wasting precious beer here.

That being said, I had some marvelous Tripel Karmeleit yesterday and it hit the spot.
