What did you learn today?

TIL not to go out in the sun in a yellow tee shirt in the height of the UK summer (we are actually having a summer for once, dawn to dusk sunshine and temps 20 to 30C, 70 - 85F ).

At this time of year there is a a small round black beetle that is attracted to yellow, I was covered in the damn things. They don't bite or do anything nasty but they make you itch like crazy.

I'm sure I learned this a few years ago (last time we had a proper summer and I was hiking in a fluorescent yellow walking top) but it must have slipped my mind. (Getting old sucks, that I do remember!)

That is not summer weather here. Those are our nighttime temps.

I learned that I am probably roughly 10% Native American. This is according to the DNA test my brother took. However, he's my half brother, so there is the possibility that it could have come from his mom's side. I did ask him, though, if he thought there was a possibility it came from his mom's side, and he told me he'd never heard of such a rumor at all, that they were entirely French and German.
Here's the part of the story that makes it interesting. My grandfather was adopted, and his adoptive mother told my grandmother that he was Italian. My uncle believed he was really (half) Native American and set out to prove it. At that time, there weren't any DNA tests. However, my uncle did come to believe he proved it and my dad believed him. They told me this growing up, but I was generally skeptical. Later, my dad came to disbelieve my uncle and they had a falling out. I was more inclined to believe the Italian story, because it's a lot more plausible, and I've known a lot of people who were "Cherokee" who turned out to not be at all, which is a tangent into which I shall not diverge, but of which some of you probably know. Anyway, my brother took this test and came up with roughly 10% Native American results or genetic markers or whatever. So I thought that was very interesting, indeed. Now the funny part is that our dad took a DNA test a couple years before he passed away, but refused to tell us about the results, which meant that there was something in there he didn't want to hear. We never found paperwork. I wonder if he got similar results and didn't want to hear it after having an emotional standoff with my uncle over the issue. Anyway, that's my long long story and if there was anything more I had to say, I forgot.
I suppose I will probably get my own test, just to see what happens.

Edit: Yes, it is strange that my grandfather's adoptive mother told my grandmother that he was Italian, and there's more to that story, but it makes the post too long and I have to go to work.
