What do you Eat before gig

I don't like to gorge myself, but I'll eat whatever's provided (if it's free, it's for me), or I'm left to my own devices, something light and vegan. I ate an hour before the show tonight but usually I like two hours.

Hmm...as a lead singing bass player, I have to not be too full and be sure to avoid chips, popcorn, and stuff like that which can get stuck in my throat. In bands where I dont sing much, food doesn't matter, just can't be too full or starving.

Free food is the best. Otherwise I eat in moderation, and hopefully nothing that's later going to cause my stage mates to ask, "Good god, what did you eat?"

Something light, usually. I was pressed for time and chowed down on two Snickers bars - sugar and a small dash of protein. I wasn't hungry until after we played, so they did their job. If I've got time and there's a nearby location, two pork/veggie egg rolls from QT have worked. A mix of protein and carbs is what I aim for - I'm aiming for neither stuffed or still hungry, just fed enough.

The ironclad rule I've followed for a few years: NO BOOZE. No hard liquor 24 hours before a show (one beer the night before is okay), nothing before on the day of the show. Afterwards is fine. Everyone else functions differently, and I can't/don't/won't call them on it, but this is the way I function. I'm not a lightweight drinker, but it can throw me off enough to not play at 100%.
