What do you Eat before gig

Something chicken like but not deep fried. IF there’s fries, I don’t eat a lot of them. I don’t like restaraunt food if I can eat something from my own kitchen before a gig.

If I’m on the road, mom & pop diners over the chain eateries, that includes the mid and upper level ones. Simple food in light doses, save the chocolate & beer for after.

Usually something with mayonnaise to loosen up my voice. Energy bars and mayo at the break. I once had a chick take down the little cup of mayo bc she thought it was a Jell-O shot. She got an unpleasant surprise.

Wut? I can’t imagine any reason I would ever eat mayo alone. Please tell me more about this...

Usually a late lunch/early dinner of Indian buffet. On the way to the gig I'll pick up a styrofoam platter of takeout gas station sushi - that's for snacking during the gig. Sometimes the nearby food truck will have a discount on XXX habanero wings so I'll scarf a dozen of those. If we're doing three sets I'll usually grab some panang curry (Thai hot x3) during the second break to keep my energy level up. And lots of sake to wash it all down.

I try to eat something light about two hours prior to showtime. I’m best with a little turkey breast plus some lettuce on whole wheat served dry - no mayo.

FWIW, I was advised many moons ago to always avoid anything with mayo if you’re on the road. That bit of wisdom came from a roadie working for a really big name band. He said if anything you eat is ever likely to make you sick when you’re touring, it’s mayo.

I took that advice to heart. And over the years I’ve come to realize it’s true.

I for one do not like to go onstage full. I like to eat 2 or 3 hours before I play. I’m trying to eat less carbs these days but is good to carbs before a gig? What is your experience?
Pretty much anything I just try to avoid over stuffing myself or eating too late/too close to stage time. When playing out of town shows I always try to eat at places that are unique to the area instead of the chain restaurants that I can eat at at home.

Light, protein, try to avoid fried, a little fat from cheese or avacado is good. Sushi is also good. A lot of times for bar food it’s the grilled chicken sandwich and pasta salad or potato salad. If I am taking a risk and being self-indulgent I’ll get fried instead.
