What happened to you today?

Then it might come back on in a couple minutes, but as the weekend went on, the delay time for it to come back on became hours. Changed the power cord, checked all the connections, changed outlets, even new batteries in the remote.

Last night I discovered that if I bang on the top of the unit, it'll turn back on, but only for a couple minutes at most. So something is loose inside the TV, and I know just enough about these things to hire someone else to diagnose and fix it. If I can even find a service that fixes these reasonably. Probably a $3 part but who knows what else it may involve. Looks like I'll be TV shopping over Memorial Day weekend. :rage:

My plasma tv died and I had a tech come look at it. It was the power supply module and the part alone was in the $450 range. Simple swap out if you are willing to dig into it. In all likelihood, it will be cheaper to replace than fix. Also, you'll notice your electricity bill drop when you get away from the Plasma... if you have a Costco nearby, get your new TV there as they offer a longer than manufacturers warranty and you can buy extra years of no questions asked warranty from Costco. Pricing of the units is almost identical, at least up here in the Great White North!

Thanks, joe. I was leaning toward it being the power supply, but had no idea they were that pricey. Evidently, this issue is not unheard of with Samsungs.

We have both a Costco and Sam's Club membership, so I'll likely be purchasing from one of those two. Thanks for the heads up about Costco's extended warranty!

Doc never said what kind of spider, he was too busy impressing me with the unpronounceable sounding name for the venom they found. Between that and taking some twisted delight in telling me the stuff would keep eating right down to my skull if we didn't get it stopped and removed, he only mentioned a spider in passing as the critter responsible for leaving the deposit that set this whole thing in motion.

Never said other than it was a spider. He was too busy delighting in watching me squirm as he told me about the venom being strong enough to eat to the bone if we didn't get it stopped and sucked out.

When do you go to get that venom sucked out?? I'd definitely ask him which species it was, so I can watch out for those :cautious: Good luck, please keep us up to date

It started out as a very painful bump that swelled a bit but didn't spread, no redness streaking or heat, just some very mild local swelling for a few days then the pain went away and i thought it was all over. Silly me.
A few days ago i woke up with a bunch of nasty goop on my pillow and a drooling knot on my head. Wifey is up the country caring for siblings so i'm on my own for the most part and i can't see the spot so i do the usual, hot compress to draw the crud and since it's draining well i figure a few days of mess and i'll be GTG. Wifey comes home for the werkend and she insists i go see the doc. Got in this morning and apparently i've got a puddle of ultra concentrated venom in the form of a powerful digestive enzyme, consuming first the fat cells then starts working on other tissue in the area. They gave me some mega anti biotic shots pills and ointment and i'm waiting for a call to have the puddle opened and the mush and bad stuff vacuumed out. Hopefully i'll have some of my scalp left over the crater when it's all said and done.

@fhm55 , I hope you get this cleared up quickly and completely. That sounds terrifying.


My day?
I went to a newly-launched jam session in Dublin tonight. The organiser, a guy I'd played with a few times, asked me along so he'd have someone there on bass.
When I got there he was already drunk, the PA system wasn't working, he hadn't brought along the bass amp he'd promised, and there was no organisation of the few people who'd showed up to play.
I left, went to a cool little cafe/bar nearby and had a nice coffee and some great cheesecake, while listening to a brazilian samba band.

I'm up here in the sticks and it's been one of the wettest years in local memory, certainly the wettest i've seen it here since we moved up in this little valley. All the moisture and now the heat has created a mini rain forest and it is spawning bugs by the ton. I'm trying to avoid just nuking the place with Deamon WP or something, but all the kinder gentler bug sprays are having no effect i can actually see. I'm staying strict on standing water so mosquitoes are not so bad but ticks spiders and sliverfish are making a play for ownership of this place, and appear to be winning. Wifey said last weekend to quit fiddling about and pull the trigger on insect armageddon, so i guess as soon as i get this crater in my head dried up, it's lights out for the little guys.
