Actually, a mixture of gasoline and tide laundry powder makes an excellent napalm substitute.

"They allow us to give napalm recipes on OT... but we can't write 'poopy' on our aeroplanes..."

You are if you don't go watch that film again! Great film! All-time classic.

I met Coppola once, circa 1991. My then-wife, an actress, read for a part in Dracula at his Hollywood pad, and while I was sitting outside his house in the car, pimp-style, the wife came out and said, "Francis says, come inside." When I came in, he apologized for keeping me outside and gave us both a tour of the house, which featured a 35mm projection booth behind the headboard of his master bedroom.
He also has a little statuette of an airplane, the Spruce Goose, I think, and he gave me a whole "A man must have a dream" speech. Really nice guy, and totally Coppola-like.

Haven't been around much lately, life interfering and all that. Not sure if I ever mentioned it, but I run a small cattle ranch and I've been stuck in calving mode since February. But, last night, the last of the heifers calved! No more getting up every two or three hours and trudging out to the corral to check on them, no more worrying everytime I leave for a few hours who will calve. I'm done night calving... until next year.

I don't know that I would have gone inside. He scares me a little, and not much does.

He was totally avuncular, Nothing to fear.

Around the same time, wife auditioned for another role she didn't get -- the raped nun in Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant.
That reading was at the Chateau Marmont, and she said it was really intense, with Abel walking around her, dropping to his knees and
making "camera frame hands" at her. She read opposite Harvey Keitel, who was intent on a deep religious conversation. Seemed like both director and thespian might have been a little "over-stimulated." That would have been a more intimidating scene, I think.

I was joking about Coppola scaring me, but I think Keitel actually would!

Another one from that period: Wifey's girlfriend was driver for Kathleen Turner, who was starring in the Ken Russell flick, "Whore." Driver-girl was backing out of Kathleen's driveway with the star beside her when there was a tremendous thud on the hood, and driver-girl turned to see Turner's boyfriend, the director Nicholas Roeg ("Performance," "Man Who Fell To Earth"), spayed across the hood, leering in the windshield.
"Go on and tell them!" bellowed Roeg, with whom Russell had obviously been fighting.
"Tell them what?" an exasperated Turner yelled back at him.
"WHAT A DRUNK I AM!!!!" He roared.
"Just go...go!" Turner told wifey's friend, who gunned back out of the driveway as Roeg rolled off the car and across the pavement.
