What is the best self defense product?

the unfortunate of you living in Illinois, laws here say you cant carry firearms. That would have been my suggestion if you lived anywhere else

Huh?

Illinois didn't allow concealed carry when I last lived there, but you were allowed to carry a firearm. You can buy them outside of Chicago, and I knew plenty of folks who had a gun legally. I heard that now there is a limited concealed carry license for folks.

Dogo Argintino. Will keep attacking no matter how many times it's been shot. Totally loyal to family & their kids. Kind of a long legged South American PitBull

Distinguished as the only dog developed in Argentina, the Dogo Argentine was created in the 1920s, through the strategem of Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez. A dog lover and avid hunter, Martinez sought a tough guardian: a hunter who was a worthy opponent for wild boar, puma and jaguar. Nevertheless, he also desired a trustworthy family dog. Dr. Martinez believed, "A dog which attacks an intruder and then, at the first threat of injury, abandons its prisoner is worth nothing as a guardian."

No ones going to mess with a dog like this, a living weapon, but trusted family member

The breed still hunts big game and guards homes. Argentinian hunts are held in strict silence—by both dogs and hunters. Dogos hunt in packs, ready to attack the tough big game. They are true dogs of heart, showing no hesitancy, The hunters value these dogs, caring for them first after a hunt, as a rider does for a horse. The breed is well known throughout Europe, especially Germany, and was granted recognition by FCI in 1960. There is an active club in the United States where Dogo owners are encouraging their use as home protector, family dog, and in police or guide work.

its legal to own guns. you cant carry a loaded weapon on you. thats a class 4 felony.

to carry is also considered "transport"
it has to be unloaded and in a case. which carrying for self defense makes it useless.
its also a class 4 felony to have an uncased loaded weapon accessible.

They are beautiful dogs. Not cheap but beautiful dogs :)

Carry what ever you want but IMHO situational awareness is the key to staying out of trouble.

+ 1! Beyond that, if it's an unwanted and unavoidable situation being forced upon you; for home defense the good old 12 gauge gets my first vote, and I'm talking about a real life and death situation, and not trying to force it into becoming one.

I would say becoming Jack Dempsey would be effective. If you are unfamiliar, he was the heavyweight champion in the late twenties and throughout the depression. When the "Manassa Mauler," as he was known, was in his 70s he was mugged in New York by a couple of thugs. He subdued both would-be robbers with body punches and ended up breaking one punk's jaw. Legend has it, when the broken jaw recipient woke up in the hospital with his jaw wired shut, he asked a police officer what had happened. The officer simply replied, "you tried to mug Jack Dempsey you stupid a**h***." If that doesn't work, I am out of ideas.
