What Is This Vintage Bass?

Could even be from the 60's. It's from Japan, sold under a variety of brand names including Teisco, but since you're in NZ it probably had whatever brand was used by the importer there.

yeah..gotta say it's a Teisco....looks kinda like an old Sears-Roebuck schlock that they made inna '60's....
It's very similar to the Aria (not Pro II) A-200, Heit (sp) Deluxe, and Goya; MIJ, maybe MIK from the late '60s-early '70s. The ones I mentioned had two piece pickguards, other than that they look about the same. It just might sound pretty good since it has two single coils.
What is it? Probably not worth your while.
That's a late sixties/early 70's Japanese instrument, from a time before MIJ was a good thing.
If it's more than $50, it's over priced.

They used to sell those on a little turnstyle with similar guitars and amps at Thrifty Drug in CA back in the early 70's.
i would put money on that because it remians me of the great styhles of basses that passed the 70s.
Boy, you guys are no fun! I love old cheapos! I wish there were more deals to be had on old cheapos. A couple of famous guys show up with old Kents or Teiscos, and next thing you know they're going for $1000 on Ebay.
I would buy that bass, put the nastiest old set of flats I could find on it, run it through a fuzztone, and play it fingerstyle by the neck, and it would kill.

I've got a Kay that looks similar. I personally love it. The old 60s Japanese basses have a charm like no other! It's not my main bass at all, but great to play, and actually records pretty cool.

Yeah man, I'd play that baby with it's 1/2 inch off the fretboard action, neck back-bow so bad no notes above the 6th fret come out, a neck so thick it feels like a log, pickups so lousy and microphonic they squeal with feedback, hopeless intonation due to the pathetic bridge but that's no problem 'cause ... (see the back-bow problem) ...

I haven't played one of those but yeah, it'd be fun to kick around on a cheapo import like that. Played a few similar to that one in my day however that were a lot of fun. Since you have played that particular bass, I humbly stand corrected. No reality problems here, thanks.
