What phone are you using these days?

Always had Androids but finally made the move over to Apple three years ago, still using my iPhone 12.

My relationship with Apple products has always been love/hate, which is why I held out from buying one for so long, but my kids convinced me to make the switch.

Honestly, both phones have their hits and misses. Like them both for what I need but not a devotee of either.

I always preferred android but I wanted amazing battery life. Not just good, or good enough, but amazing, so I got the 15 plus (non pro) last year. It gives me the battery life I want, and apple has copied so much from android at this point that the customizability is basically on par.

Samsung Galaxy S20. Which I only bought (unlocked) after I destroyed my S7 in a MTB wreck about 4 years ago. No plans to change unless I break this one or need another tax write-off. I work for myself, so my phone is technically a business expense. But there are other far more beneficial business expenses.

Iphone 8. If I don't upgrade soon, I'm going to have to replace my battery. I usually hold out on upgrading until my phone will no longer handle updates for the apps I use every day, but the way my luck has been running I'll get a new battery and my radar and/or bill paying apps will no longer be supported a few weeks later.

I got a couple years (maybe three?) out of my Pixel6 before the battery started bulging... they promptly overnighted me a new one, and I kept it another year maybe before trading in on the Pixel7 I have now. I THINK I might have had a pixel4 that I traded for the six after a couple of years (??)
My jump to pixel was the first time I broke my own rule of "never spend more than $300 on a celphone!!" I don't recall what I was running the years prior but it was always something pretty cheap. Google roped me in with the 'first in line for Android patches' and I'm glad i bought into that. Not thrilled about the $$$ phones, but thanks to WIRELESS CHARGING I can now get more than a couple years use out of a phone ( before the micro-USB connector wears out from constant plugging in/out...) MInd you they are all USB-C now, but I have grown to disdain cherging cables and have wireless chargers strewn all over the house...

The pixel 7 is certainly good for another year or two, so I'm holding out for the Pixel 10 - whatever their smaller budget version will be (10a or something?).
NOT impressed with these 'smaller' phones getting bigger and bigger, wearing holes out in my jeans. And Levis jeans are garbage now anyway, a pair barely lasts a year. [Shakes fist at the clouds] :)

My current day-job equips me with a gargantuan iPhone 15 in an Otterbox case that I have to lug around constantly, its time to start buying Cargo pants to haul around all this hardware. NOT a fan of Apple iOS, and I personally manage a fleet of 200 of them for our organization. HAPPILY only two OSX machines out of the 500-odd laptops/tablets/workstations/servers/VMs we look after (90% Windows, which is its own adventure of course...) :emoji_robot:

My wife and I have iphones. Her an ancient gen1 SE that was a hand-me-down from one of the kids. Mine is a XR. We are not otherwise in the Apple ecosystem. We went with iphone because that's what the kids were using. Tech support in case we needed it. After a while we just stuck with Apple.

I just received 2 iphone 16e's. It was time to upgrade. The SE didn't do 5G cellular and the battery is getting week. I wanted to get her upgraded before her SE bit the dust and I would need to rebuild her configuration from scratch. She really liked the SE size, but Apple has moved away from small-format phones.

I think the 16e's will work well. We don't need fancy cameras, just something to grab snapshots. I bought the 128gb model (cheapest). Neither of us put a lot of music or movies on our phones. Transferred all my stuff to my new phone this evening. Will update the wife's in a day or two. I need to research moving from a sim card to an esim. The SE isn't esim capable. Also, the side-by-side cloning doesn't work, so I am backing up to iTunes on my computer and then restoring that backup to the new phone.

P.S. One of the biggest hassles is the conversion from lightning connectors to usb-c. 2 120volt chargers and cables for the house. One more for my computer bag. A usb-a to usb-c cable for my Desktop computer in the basement that has no usb-c ports. 3 12volt charges and cables for the cars. Probably also a few multifunction splitter dongles I have. At least now all these cables and connectors will be compatible with all my other hardware. I can't believe that Apple is too anti-customer to include a 120v charger cube with the phone.

The 12 mine and 13 mini are the last of the SE-sized phones, and a huge upgrade, with the full screen and much better camera than the SE as well. Last gift from apple to those who dislike large format phones.

I been using phones come out under the Android One banner. 3rd party phones with minimal tinkering in the OS and some kind of licencing agreement with Google to be at the front of the queue for updates. Nearly went away when Pixels went in-house. Currently got a Nokia A One came out after that. Still cheap. Still minimal. But the hang time blown out a touch. Still beat Samsung last I looked.

Doooooddd!!! TIny phones are where its at! :D
I don't want to carry a phone AT ALL but have to have the three or four Authenticator programs, etc etc on my person at all times. So LESS is MORE.
Anyway , it seems the smallest picture I can snap these days is about 4000 pixels, so that "blows up real good" on even a tiny screen. When I am out shopping I routinely use the phone to "magnifying glass" all the 2.5 point type they put on packaging nowadays - not visible with the naked eye!
