Good to see I am not alone with my appreciation for RUSH. Clockwork Angels is a killer disc (album). I was heavy in to punk from 78 to 84. Never really appreciated RUSH then. Oh, but with age comes wisdom.
I'm with rtav. Loved everything up til Moving Pictures. I've remained respectful of their talent and musicianship, just haven't cared for their forays into more keyboard flavored areas.
I think Working Man is my selection for this exercise.

I hear this a lot. Check out anything from Counterparts until now (Clockwork Angels), and there is more keyboard on albums like Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves and A Farewell to Kings than there is on the newer albums.
oh geez, i saw them on the power windows tour (awesome) and i'm kind of a newbie dilettante compared to real rush fans!
it's really all about moving pictures, whether you're a "pre" or "post" guy; it's "post" for me, when the songs got shorter and geddy sang lower i liked them more. (the "pre" songs i like were the harbingers of the tighter pop direction really, "closer", "spirit", "free will", that stuff.)
so, the song that sums up the rush that i dig is probably "red barchetta".
(or maybe "big money", or "time stands still", or...dammit!)
I was also heavy into punk in the same era...but luckily was also following the ULTIMATE punk band...RUSH!

There are only a handful of Rush songs I really like, but Working Man is my favorite.

I have seen Rush 25 times since 1976 and that is my ultimate concert .Neil Peirt is my favorite musician and always has been since that nite in 1976.
You cannot sum Rush up with one song .
Stratovanni when Rush played The first side of Hemispheres on the Counterparts tour it was before computers and the internet were everyday in everyones life .The song list was not widely known / (Rushisaband.com did not exist)I about fell over when they played Hemispheres.WOW that was huge! or the whole first side of 2112 see here we go on and on and on. If I was forced to choose I would say Natural Science .........today that is .

Counterparts is the missing link video wise .I would love a pirated copy of that tour .I had found some stuff from that tour by searching Rush counterparts /Chicago ? I cant remenber exactly but I found it on utube. Nothing works like live though!!! Marcus Amphitheatre July 4th Milwaukee.
