I know, right? That's the thing. Gotta weigh a metric ton. Either comes with a back brace or perhaps they recommend using a mic stand up the wazoo to keep you from falling over.
I've never owned one, or two, or any, actually. I did had one in my home for a few days, but that belonged to someone else.
I bought this back in the early 80's for $800 US in Shreveport LA. I think I played it on maybe two songs during our normal sets where I would start the song on the 12 string then switch to bass after the intro. I took it to Dallas one day on the urging of a friend to sell it to a collector he knew and ended up having to pawn it for $300 just to get home. I never got it back...

What makes me uncomfortable is the thought of the wall giving way with all that Rickenbacker hanging on it.
Can't believe after 5 pages nobody posted about Mike Rutherford comissioning a luthier with joining a 360/12 guitar and a 4001 bass. Here's what Mike's page tells about his gear, this RIC double neck and also the Shergold "modular" double neck (also 12-string + bass).

Well, it's showing 35lbs on my bathroom scale...but I know it's not an ounce over 34lbs. I installed lightweight tuners on the bass.
Cool artifact, (not digging the Bananaglo finish though) the price points to its value as a collector item more than practical instrument just for the weight alone. I suspect that won’t sell too quickly. Rutherford is a big guy, it didn’t look too awkward in his hands, and he used it for half the set, but the average player would get tired of the weight pretty quick. I saw Geddy’s doubleneck in person once. Rush was doing a three show run in San Diego, 1980. I was working at a guitar store downtown, we were a Ric dealer, pretty good guitar tech. Guy comes in with a huge case, I thought it was a Rhodes piano, turns out it’s Geddy’s double, his guitar tech was looking for parts of some kind. We got to peek into the case, Nerd Heaven, but no touch! Cool part was seeing him play the damn thing next night, I didn’t really know rush much, humbled me quick!
The rest of us call that color, which is the result of the yellowing/aging of the conversion varnish top coat (similar to a clear coat on an automobile) as "cream" or "vanilla," as did my 1976 4001 when I owned it some decades ago.
