What to do about confederate flag bass?

Didn't we have this discussion a couple years ago?
OP should have done a search, he would have read the same responses.
Dean sold a lot of Confederate flag guitars and I don't remember a hissy fit over them.
It was probably done by a Dimebag fan.

Why don't Americans and other people around the world get bent out of shape when they see a Union Jack flag?
The Union Jack represents a monarchy that world wide oppressed and enslaved people until they got their butt kicked out of most all of the country's they occupied.
How many Americans and other people around the world died fighting off the oppressive Brits flying the Jack

8 pages in about a Peavey. A Peavy. And it's been said before, a $200 bass. Sand it, or sell it and go somewhere else like Democratic Underground to start a race thread.

This is not about the bass and you know it.

I totally "thunk" it was going to go that way. I think I eluded to that on the first page about half a dozen posts in.

TB'ers can't help themselves. If we don't care what they think we're dumb. If you don't believe me just ask them. :cool:

That goes for both sides by the way. Nobody cares what you think about history or racism or....... whatever.

The OP obviously understands that there could be some ruffled feathers over the graphic. He wants to cover it up or somehow otherwise "neutralize" it. He stated in English (the primary language of many here) that he was not interested in a refin. And holier than thou-ists couldn't help but fire their morality canons.

"Though shalt refinishith thoust bass or prepare to dealist with ye consequences!" :sleep: (I'm so happy we have a dozing off smiley.)

Stick to the topic and don't be a <enter bad word here>. :meh:

(Haven't read the whole thread, but)...

I'd refinish it just because the current paint job is downright ugly and not well done; it has nothing to do with the content, just the execution. There's a user on here who has a cool looking, airbrushed Confederate flag on his bass--can't remember his name at the moment--and it actually looks pretty good.

Now, for the politics of the thing...I think it's wrong. It doesn't matter what someone intends the flag to represent--Southern pride, heritage, etc.--the first thing most people are going to think about when they see Confederate flag is racism in the United States. Same thing with the swastika; it's a common religious symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, but it's been stigmatized as the Nazi symbol. If you wear a swastika people are going to assume that it's in relation to the Nazi movement, no matter how you try to justify it otherwise. It's the unfortunate reality.

There were any number of statements by Confederate leaders who talked about the necessity of maintaining slavery, and slavery was based solely on race in the USA. No white person in America was a slave in 1861. I am
not saying no whites were poor or suffering, but they were legally human, and not property that could be bought and sold. Supreme Court Justice Tanney said in Dred Scott, that "a black man had no rights a white man was bound to respect."

Personally, I don't want to get involved in politics or racial discussions. I did enough of that here for years, but the unwillingness to acknowledge that defending slavery was at the heart of the Confederate cause is just dishonest playing with words.

All the talk of states rights and not backing down meant nothing without slavery as its motivation. Remove slavery, and there were no issues powerful for a Civil War in America.

Yep. But I usually try to keep from flinging out any righteous indignation. I can't impress upon you enough how much I do not get offended when someone disagrees with me. In fact, I think it was that very thread where the person with who I had the disagreement and I ended the conversation in a very nice manner. Go back and check it out. We were nothing short of kind to each other. We even thanked each other for keeping it nice even though we both felt strongly about it.

This thread has just been poo flinging.

Are you entitled to refuse to play on a stage with someone playing a rebel flag guitar? Sure. (Seems a bit extreme but, hey, I really can't tell you how much I don't care.) That's not what this thread was ever about. And nobody even asked you about that.

Heck, in this country today, there are lots of people who live here and take advantage of this amazing place who ore offended by the American flag.

So we could fling poo at each other all day over flags and what they represent to whom. What does that have to do with the OP's question?

(Answer: Exactly zero..... or perhaps less.)
