What was your dream bass when you first started playing?

I wanted a Ric because they look so cool. It didn't hurt that both Geddy and Lemmy played one I'd still get one if the price was really good, but odds are I never will.

Plain old Fender P-bass.....didn't even know enough as to want any specific year or anything. just wanted the same bass Adam Clayton uses in Rattle and Hum.

I started Playing Bass at 14 in '74 and my dream Bass was a Ric , I had a few basses (including a Gonzales Ric Copy)between then an 78 when I eventually got one, which I still have.

I started playing when I was 13, and at about 15 or 16, all I wanted was a Stingray. I've never owned one to this day--25 now--and I'm thinking one is in my near future.

Man, am I old. When I was 5 and saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, I wanted his Hofner. I finally got to play one in high school. As light as balsa with tone to match, haha! Of course, I'm sure the Univox cab complete with Standell head didn't help any. Ouch!

Totally dug the Chris Squire vibe.

+1 I scrimped and saved from mowing lawns, washing cars, cleaning horse stalls and collecting aluminum cans. took me about a year and a half, but I bought one new in '77. I still have it, and just did a top to bottom restoration and refin. on it. I don't play it much any more except for old times sake. I play my Vigiers almost exclusively these days. Total Rick vibe and so much more without the headaches and excuses.

A Warwick Streamer Stage, just because Stuart zender was always playing those basses...

I have tried a lot, and I have hated them all... Still, i want a Stage I 4 strings... Think that one will fit with my hands.

I remember hating Fenders... Now I just love them, and my Stingray, I was looking for an ultra bass, to go for any kind of music... Can't say how much I love that baby!!!!!

Probably a Carvin Custom for some reason. My friend show me some basses and the Carvin was pretty much the one that really got my attention.

fender p bass, maple neck and FB, blue agave or lake placid blue with black PG, that or shoreline gold or metallic chrome, basslines quarter pounder and a badass bridge.

still want one, but the maple neck makes it harder, right now it's between a '51 p Which would require a refin and new bridge in t eform of the badassIII, maybe a new pup and a 50's classic, black, already have the pup i'd need and i'm lookin to get a badass II for when i order it.

I've always been drooling over the LTD F-254 in black cherry. The paint job with that fret inlay is just so metal its not even fair. But I've always gone with a cheaper or smarter purchase ... one day...

When I started playing bass, it was a Modulus Quantum 5, blue/green burst on quilt maple. I brought it home a few months ago!

Believe it or not it was a Sadowsky 24 Fret 5-String. Jason Newsted was one of the reasons I started playing bass and finding out he played a Sadowsky made me go to their site. The 24 Fret 5 string is what initially caught my eye.

Never owned one and don't really have any current plans on purchasing one but maybe someday.

I used to always want a Stingray because several of my favorite bass players used them and plus they look totally awesome. I still want one, but its not my top priority for acquisition right now. I really kinda want a 5 string jazz bass now...

My buddy was the bassplayer at the time, I was still hoping to learn guitar so that we could play together. It seemed wherever we went to look at basses, it was always the same Fender style stuff. I have always disliked 50's era art deco, be it in Fender or Chevy.

Then one day I saw something I had not seen before. It didn't have sharp edges, it was smoothly organic. It didn't have an inch deep clear coat, and also wasn't smeared with paint. That was my first introduction to a brand called Warwick, which I had never heard of before.

That was the day I found my true musical calling. No gloss neck for my fingers to stick to. No thin neck to cramp my grip. And no need for a pick to take away my sensitivity. I became a bass player the moment I held it...

It was a Warwick Thumb at some music shop that doesn't exist anymore. I believe it was around 2000 or 2001, I'm a bit more open minded these days. Thanks mostly to Talkbass. Still can't stand Art Deco... but I could get past that for a nice P-bass.

Let's see, it was around 2001-2002, and it had to be the Ric 4003. No longer want one, perfectly satisfied with the godly combo that is Fender Jazz meets MarkBass.
