I had a 1x12 solid state "WOLF" amp about 12 years ago. I know nothing about it, knew nothing about bass for that matter, and bought it used with a used Squire P bass and got taken to the cleaners.
AFter about 3 months of apartment-level playing, it started smoking and caught on fire. A very cool rock and roll moment followed by an equally uncool realization my no-money-havin' self was out on the street.

My 1st amp was a Peavey 1x12" combo(yuck). Today I run a LittleMark II atop a Bergantino HT112.

My first amp was a 1946 Gibson BR-1 with an electromagnetic Jensen 12". Extra points if anyone had ever heard of, let alone, seen one of these relics!

My 1st amp .. 1965 Standel Artist w/15" JBL, then Ampeg B15 bolted to a B18 (too heavy to lift) then a Kustom w/ 2 cabs 4 15" JBL's, then a Sunn 200 with 2 15" JBL's, now a Hartke HA2000 with VX115 cab.
first amp was a quantum q25b combo. POS from the local pawn shop. overpriced, crappy sound.
now, i'm running a split rig consisting of a GK 1001RBII feeding a bag end 2x12, and a kustom quad 200 HD feeding a peavey 2x12 guitar cab.
i'd say i've stepped up a little

Thanks, I put alot of work into that one.
first amp was a Fender Bassman 135 with 2x15 cab. Currently I use ampeg svp pro with qsc 1202 or swr sm400s into either ampeg 6x10 or epifani 3x10
My first amp was a Behringer BX108 15-Watt 1x8" Combo. My current amp is a Behringer BXL450A 45-Watt 1x10" Combo. If you ask me, the BX108 sounded better. As I use my BXL450A, I wish more and more everyday to own an Ampeg combo or a cheap GK Goldline stack w/ some real headroom. The BXL450A distorts more than the BX108 did... 
My first amp was borrowed/shared. I used a Silvertone guitaramp with one of the guitarists in my first band. We blew it up. 
Then next one was an Acoustic 360 with the folded horn 18" and a 2x15" (Kustom) box.

Seriously big bottom. I remember those rigs where it is quiet on stage so you keep turning up, but the people in the fifth row are vibrating in place from every note you play.
Same here. Peavey TNT150 with the built in chorus. Love that thing. Ended up just working it to death. Now I play a Ampeg SVP-BSP>Carver 2.0i 1000W Mono @ 4ohm.

My formative years were spent plugging a Sears Roebuck Jazz copy into a little no-name, pawn shop special with an 8" speaker. The sound that little amp put through its speaker was so bad, I eventually rigged it up to put it's output signal into a 1/4" jack instead, which I then plugged some old Koss headphones into.
Fast forward past Peavey, past GK, past Trace and SWR...
Current Amp:
Today, I have the gut-quaking pleasure of playing my basses through a rig consisting of an Ampeg SVP-CL preamp, a Stewart World 1.6 and two Mesa Powerhouse 2x12's.
Epilogue:
I do not miss that pawn shop special one bit! Not even out of nostalgia!

I started on a Ibanez IBZ10. Then moved up to the big daddy. Sansamp RBI + QSCPLX1230 and SWR Big Bertha.
My very first bass amp was using the microphone input of an old Kenwood home stereo amp driving
a pair of JBL L-50 speakers. It worked surprisingly well by rolling back on the amps bass knob.
Currently, my favorite big rig is my SVT-II/NV610, but I still really love playing my Ampeg B-100R
for lower volume-level type situations too.
