What was your first bass guitar?

This Zenta 70s? EB type thing, which I got in the early 90s.

I'd pretty much forgotten about it until last year - my girlfriend's kids were talking about what guitars and basses they liked and one mentioned that they thought SG basses were really cool.

A bit of a clean up and a bit of a rewire to get it working again, and now it's their first bass too.

Something like this. Colour was different. Guess it wanted to be a fretless because the frets were falling out by themself. Can't really remenber but I probably sold it for close to nothing. Never seen another WEM

I also debuted with a used Yamaha RBX 260 P-bass in translucent dark green. I think I paid around €90 for it, and it was almost new. I think I should have never sold it.

My first bass: I stumbled onto an Ovation Magnum III in a music store in Houston in 1981. I bought it new and have had it ever since. It's still set up great, plays easy, sounds fantastic, and has a wide spectrum of sounds. It's heavy as heck but sustains all day. Guess I was lucky my first time.

I couldnt' keep up with my guitar playing friends so I dropped in to Palace Jewelry & Loan and spied a likely suspect hanging on the wall. The proprietor said it was a "Fender copy." I gave him $200 and walked out, in hardshell case, with Boogie Bodies Bass #14: Solid birds eye maple body, neck and fretboard, loaded with the original Bartolini HI-A pups.

PS: Oh, yeah, I still have it!

mine was an awefull SG bass copy by a company I don't even remember. I was using it temporarily from a freind. The action was so bad I had to use c-clamps to play it....

then I bought my 72 P-bass that I still have. I only had the SG bass for about a month, so I consider the P my real first bass. Still have it, and am the 2nd owner.

My first bass was the now-discontinued Squier Standard Jazz Bass. I got the walnut satin variant and this is what I began learning on. The only real gripe I had against it was the slight buzz that occurred when I tried to solo the pickups, but it wasn't bad enough to negatively affect my enjoyment in playing it. I couldn't get completely used to the long-scale neck, so I sold it about a year after I got it and bought a Squier Vintage Modified Mustang Bass (which turned out to be a mistake, but that's another story for another thread)

An Ibanez SR500. I loved the feel of the neck, but didn't like the easily tarnished hardware. I wish I wouldn't have sold it and just switched out the hardware.

Squier Affinity P, black. Not bad at all. I kind of regret selling it, honestly. It would look good on my wall. It had to go in order to fund my first real rig though.

Hi everybody, this is my first post.
My first bass was a purple Ibanez ergodyne, made of luthite. I could never set it right and I didn't really like how it sounded, but it got me my first paying gig as a bass player so I guess it was allright. I sold it to a friend who really likes it.
