What a coincidence, I'm listening to the Nuggets compilation and the track playing right now is Psychotic Reaction. This pic fits perfectly :smug:

A '98 Peavey Milestone III in black. Wow, that thing survived through a ton of teenage angst-fueled shows, high school talent competitions, band practices, and temper tantrums. I wish I still had it, but the cost of shipping from Hawaii to Seattle would probably have outdone the value of the bass.

This is the bass today with the Vox logo removed in a newer hard shell case that I bought for it 25 yrs ago.

If I see the first picture - I presume you played in a Beach Boys tribute band? ;-)

Actually back then I remember that we were playing The Grass Roots, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, The Stones, Sam & Dave, The Doors, The Ugly Ducklings and even Tom Jones. No Beach Boys.

Then Jimi Hendrix, and onto Led Zeppelin 1 and early Free shortly after but not with the Tele-Star. My next bass was a Hofner 500/1.

It was a Univox factory second (bit of slopover of paint along the bound body edge) re-branded as a Maestro.

It was a nice enough bass that it inspired me to keep at playing the bass, unlike the POS guitar I had before that turned me off guitar playing.

My first bass was a Tele Star exactly like this that my parents bought for my 13th birthday in 1972. (It was bought at a G. C. Murphy's 5 & 10!) It was an awful enough instrument that I traded it for a beat to death set of drums and didn't get serious about becoming a bassist for over 35 years.

I was silly enough to find and buy this example on ebay last year.

My first was a Maya Jazz bass. Actually a rather good copy. The neck was solid and it set up good. The pickups were weak but functional. Here's a pic of me with it the day I got it in the summer of '76. I was 18 and the football shirt was from junior high. Shows what a skinny punk I was....

wow that's amazing. My first bass was a used 78 Fender Musicmaster bass I fell in love with and bought when i was 16. My guitarist brother taught me Another One Bites the Dust by Queen so that I could play something in the shop. Later on my mind also exploded when I bought a 74 Precision

The only pic I could find was this:

It was a Vibra, apparently Korean made and mainly exported to Canada in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Mine was white with black plastic and two pickups,and had a big J style cover over the bridge, which was more of a Fender style (bent steel plate) than the one pictured.
I got it used for Christmas 1979, cost was $175.
Short scale, weak truss rod, plywood body, and junk tuners.

My second bass was a one owner 1976 Rick 4000, which I still own.
Actually, I still have the Vibra but most of the hardware is missing, and it's been repainted several times and stripped of it's frets years ago.
