Same as me, Ibanez GSR200FM. I still have it, although the pots are falling apart and it can't keep a tuning anymore lol. I love the build of the bass, just not anything other than how it feels in my hands.

haha if falling apart wouldn't be a bad idea to save the neck, it IS the nicest part.

Mine was a mid 70's Raven EB-0 copy that I was only too happy to have traded away. The neck on that puppy was horrendous. On the plus side, I did develop excellent finger strength on my left hand while learning on it. Took me years to learn to play with a lighter touch afterwards.

1966 Precision bass, OHSC, Fender bass amp (silver face with tubes) - bought for me by my mom for Xmas in 1979 from Leon Rhodes, a country session and studio player for $700.

Still have mine. Aria SG. Have had it for over 25 years now. I will even gig with it occasionally.

A No-Name creme-color/white pg & rosewood (ha! like the Tele in my avatar I just noticed...), Asian-made slab-body P-bass knockoff.

I bought it new off the wall at a big-city music store for $280 of my own lawn-mowing money when I was 13 or 14, and I thought it was beautiful.

That was about 1972.

I do not still have it, but I do have a photo of me playing it.

The thing I recall most vividly now about that day is the used Hofner Beatle Bass hanging next to it that I could have bought for the same money.


I chose poorly.

My first bass was a mid-80's MIJ Fender P Bass. I paid $275 for it back it '93. When I got it, it had a black chrome Badass 2 bridge and a horrible painted pickgaurd. Since then, I've refinished it, put a tort guard on it, stripped the black chrome off of the Badass bridge, installed a Nordstrand vintage P pickup, and added Gibson speed knobs (first real guitar was a Les Paul).

This bass is still my main today.

Martin Stinger P bass copy, bought as a failed QA model from their factory store in Nazareth, the fret board had a crack before the 1st fret.

One night I ripped the frets (poorly) out with a pliers. A couple years later I took it apart for some reason, and tried to sand it down. I think I sitll have the body, but the rest is lost.

I wish I still had it, preferably with frets, paint and teenager stickers, still.

The very first bass "instrument" I played was a 2-string suitcase bass; I was drafted to fake my way through a couple of bluegrass songs for an office party at work, before I had even started playing bass. The second bass was a loaner, a no-name fretless P-bass clone one of the bluegrass guys owned.

Eventually I bought my own first bass which, if I remember correctly, was an Aria Pro II "The Cat".

We all had to start somewhere and play something.
It's kind of like your first car, your parents bought you a beater to see if you'd wreck it.
