What was your first bass guitar?

1963 P, bought in 1967, and due to good fortune and pack-rat habits, still mine. Now it has about 7 more basses as buddies. (Fender fanatics, I know the neck isn't a '63, it's a '72 because the truss rod broke and I had to replace it quickly.)

Here's my first bass, purchased in 1985:

First bass was a 1980's Peavey T-45. I hated that thing. But I also learned a lot playing that bass.

My main current bass is a 1994 Pedulla Thunderbass. So I've basically gone from starting out with a big, heavy, ugly, passive, dull sounding bass to a much more modern, sleek, small-bodied bass with modern sounding Bartolini soapbars and a Bartolini pre-amp. It's been a long journey.

On a side note, it just goes to show you how unimportant your first bass really is and why I don't understand why so many people spend so much time trying to figure out which "first" bass to buy. What you start out on isn't likely to be what you are playing 10 (or however many) years later.

IN 1980 I got my first bass. A 1966 Kimberly Jazz short scale. I loved that bass. I had to sell it to pay for my Brand NEW Peavey T-20FL Fretless.
4 months ago, I bought the most expensive bass I own. A Modulus Genesis 5. Man, looking back on it all, we sure do come a long way!

First i bought a Aria P bass (beginner one), then bought a Rockbass Streamer Standard 2x pickup and then a Squire Affinity Jazz bass.

Don't like the squire so refund the money back and bought a G&L Tribute L2500.

Then sold the warwick rockbass streamer to buy "Vintage Acoustic Bass guitar".

Then Traded the vintage acoustic bass for a Warwick Corvette Std.

Now i have Aria P Bass (mod it with delano p pup and install a set of delano MM pup near bridge) , G&L Tribute L2500 and WArwick Corvette Std.

I love all 3 of my bass now but i still find it i play my Aria more since the sound is kickass now with the delano pup.

Then (1970's) I had a seriously poor MIJ p-bass knock-off I bought off my cousin for $20. I used to play through my friend's Heathkit bass amp. Anyone remember those? build it yourself?

Today - I still love the Fender style.

This body & neck were cut for me by Tommy Rosamond out at USA Custom Guitars. I sanded and finished it in an oiled resin. I wired it, added all the hardware, and did the fret dress & neck and nut setup.

This bass is 7 years old now (the photo was today). I would do it all again.

Then: My first bass was a Hohner Steinberger B2B. Fun axe but it had a serious case of neck dive. Quickly supplanted by an Ibanez Roadstar II, since it had a full body and balanced well on the strap.

A faulty Epiphone Les Paul Special. I got so pissed at it it split it off a wall. But after a year and i bit i got my self an Ibanez BTB 200
