What was your first bass guitar?

My first bass ever was the Fender Squier PBass. The one that I played the longest was Rickenbacker 4003.

My first bass was a hideous Aria Pro II with a big, ugly tan/creme split coil soapbar with exposed pole pieces.

I now own a Warwick Thumb Bolt-on 5, Ibanez GWB2 and GWB35.

First: Squier Affinity P-bass.

Now: That same P-bass body with a Mighty Mite neck, refinished orange by Pat Wilkins (dropped it off today), with a Warmoth white pearl pickguard, an EMG pickup, Badass II bridge, Hipshot D-tuner, & Ultralites.

Made in Japan "Pandora" P-Bass copy, back in 1971(?). Absolute beginner's quality.
Now I'm using a Kinal 5-string, a Dolan 5-string fretless, a MIM P-Bass and (if I finish reassembling it) a MIM J-Bass.
And I still suck!

First bass ever was a two-pickup Global bass out of the Sears catalog (played through the stereo, then through a Holmes combo amp). It looked a lot like the one below...

Currently, I play a pair of custom-built Curbows, the latest in a long line of really nice instruments that I probably don't deserve.

In 1973, my grandmother bought a drum set for my brother from a couple looking to sell everything for a trip to Europe. They had a bass and wanted $300 for it. It was too much for her to pay so she offered $150. They took it. Two weeks later she showed up with a drumset and a 1969 Fender Precision.

Last year, my wife gave me a new Sadowsky #4812 for my birthday.

I was a guitar player for a long while before I picked up bass, and loved my American Deluxe Fat Strat. I got the Jazz for a *steal* used and it was the beginning of a beautiful journey...
