What was your first bass guitar?

The first bass I got lent was a Gibson G3.
The first one I bought by myself was a Hohner B2A, followed by a 77 Fender J.

Today I am playing a Sadowsky MV5

My 1st was a 91' Squier JAZZ that was crappy but not as crappy as my bros BC Rich japanese Warlock.

Boy have budget basses have imporved over the years!

Now a have various basses and still Gas'n 4 more...the BEAD Bass is what I'm talking about.

The first bass I got was an 83' Guild Pilot SB602. Today I still play Pilots.
Guild Pilots and Fenders... are the basses I always keep comming back to.

Tokai jazz bass copy. Actually not half bad, defretted it and used it that way for a while and then replaced it bit by bit with Warmoth parts. Gave the fretless neck to a buddy of mine years ago, should see if he still has it. Warwick these days.

The first bass I used was a headless one pickup bass, the pickup was mounted on to a piece of wood which could be slided back an forth and the only control was a volume knob. As I borrowed it I don't know what sort of bass it was, nice if anyone could tell me

The first bass I owned was a warwick rockbass corvette 5stringer, but now I play a Sandberg california JM5

A made in Japan Univox P Bass copy. A year and a half later I got a New 77 Fender P Bass after the truss rod snapped on my Univox.

Now I play Fodera NYC Basses

I have since owned about a dozen other basses.

Technically my first bass was a Peavey P-bass copy (I think it was a Milestone model) - I got it when I was still playing guitar cause I wanted to learn how to slap - I did and then I sold it after a month or so. I don't think that counts, does it?

My first "real" bass was my Carvin LB76 6-string when I officially made the switch.

Now I play a Fender Custom Classic J5, an MIA J4 and an Ibanez AGB140 semi-hollow.

My first bass was picked out and bought for my by my grandparents. It was a Memphis tobacco(?) sunburst Fender P bass copy (and as crazy as it sounds, because of that Memphis, it is one of the main reasons why I will have nothing to do with Fender in any way shape or form now). I loathed that thing because the neck was garbage on it (I had no idea how to set one up then) but its what I learned on. The first bass I bought for myself was a '64 Gibson EB-0 (wish I still had that thing.. I bought in the late 70s for like $150 O_O we know what they go for now) and the neck felt way too small for me so it was a love/hate relationship I had with it. I put it up and got a Peavey T40.

And I hear you Droskobass!!! I got out of it and got rid of all my axes some years back. Got back into it and recently got a Foundation 4 to add to another bass I was getting my groove back with. WOW! I can not put this thing down hardly at all. (My poor Brownsville Bat has been retired I think which is sad cause the neck on that one is so sweet).

My first bass was a Fender Bullet Bass Deluxe, I think it was an '81 (before that I had been playing a Peavey T-40 that I had on extended loan- good riddance). I loved that Bullet & wish I still had it... I had to sell it in 1990 because I had the chance, right out of the blue, to buy my dream rig at the time: a cream colored '86 Guild Pilot and a '72 Ampeg VT-22. Unfortunately, the Guild got ruined in a flood... If it hadn't, I'd still be playing it. Now I play a DeArmond Pilot Pro, which for my money is 99.9% as good as the Guild; also, a DeArmond Jet Star- my "Pimp" bass.

I've got to agree with Ubado about Pilots & Fenders- Can't do without one or the other, preferably both. That cracks me up about the JP-90 neck- I've been searching desperately for one to put on my Lotus P-copy, so if anyone's got one they'd like to sell (or a Bullet Deluxe neck)... I think Pilot players are the only people who appreciate the JP-90 (I have to say though, that Fender did it even better with the original Aerodyne Jazz).

my first bass was a genuine memphis beale street pawnshop find (when there were pawnshops there)-a hofner tan-vinyl-covered solidbody that looked like a fender strat. i didn't keep it very long. next was a 73 fender p-bass,ditto. i purchased a used black rick 4000,which i would probably still have,had the original owner not begged me to sell it back to him after 2 monthes. all of this occurred around 1975 ....i have bought and sold a ton of basses since then,but the longest i ever kept one was 11 years...an 83 rickenbacker 4002. i guess i am the opposite of a pack rat....currently i have a 2 ricks (4000 and 4004cii),2 non-fender jazzes,and a dano hodad bass. oh yeah,i like the rickenbackers!
