What was your first bass guitar?

made some mods on it (new pickup, new bridge), it sounded great
like a true '64 (yeah right.... at least it was close)

now: MTD 535 and fender jazz marcus miller V string

and I must say I'm quite happy

Woot?! Eko?! I started with an Eko! It had a maple neck and plywood body, had really bad tone, but surprisingly quite decent sustain and action.

Now I play Schecter Elite-5. Damn happy with it

I'm pretty sure mine was a Jason as I saw the indentical bass years later in a hock shop for 20 bucks or something like that, however I've also seen identical Eko badged beasties. A mate had an Eko semi accoustic guitar that I think might have had a ply body. Nice action on it and a not unreasonabe tone given its cost. I remember I hotrodded his amp for him to get some distortion happening.

These days I mostly play a smallish collection of basses as I've downsized from around 45 in the early 90s.

Plus a couple of busted 70s Gibsons with broken headstock heels that I really should fix sometime.

There's a few I really regret selling including a beautiful Burns Bison and a wonderful Hamer bass flametop that was a delight to play and surprisingly enough a cheap as chips Ansen P bass copy from Japan from the mid 70s which was a lovely player.

I started out on a Maya Jazz copy which was stolen and I replaced it with a Mexican Fender Jazz which I still play. I also bought a Columbus fretless Jazz with my first ever pay packet, which I still have, and now my main bass is a Mexican Precision Deluxe Plus.

now: fender p bass special i picked up second hand for £200. good deal. put some duncans in there and a badass ii bridge. nice bass

First bass was a Danelectro Longhorn, bought with hard case for about $100 in 1963, played it for over 15 years, sold it to buy a Fender Tele bass re-issue in the '70's. Sold that and pretty much stopped playing for a while.
Bought an Aria Pro II/ The Cat bass about 20 years ago sort of by accident, still have it-used it to record a radio commercial soon after I bought it, so it pretty much paid for itself. Neck is similar to the old Danelectro and very fast.
Also, after searching this forum for your experiences with the recent Chinese-made violin basses, I just bought one on eBay and I'm waiting for UPS right now.
First time in my life I have had more than one bass at a time.
I also play guitar, and have a 15 year old MIM Stratocaster that just crys and screams, so I may be looking for a Mexican JB next. 3 basses-where will it end?

First bass: Peavey Cirrus 4 string bubinga/walnut. Still have it.

Current bass: many! My newest Conklin featured a bubinga top as a bit of a tribute to my first bass.

washburn xb 500. only cool part about it was that it had a pretty beefy neck. then ibanez atk-305, the MIJ series. cool bass, but heavy as bricks. then a fernandes apb-5. very light and fast, cool sound but too tiny for my body type. now MM stingray 5... ahhh.

It was a '60's Supro. I think it was a P copy. It was really cool. I got rid of that and got a '64 (I think) Vox Cougar that I still have. I wish I could find another old Supro like that one.
