First bass- Teisco Del Ray - 2 pickups, big flat switches and a sandblasted/gloss striped metal pickguard. I'll bet I'm not the only one.....

well i started on my Moms old Yamaha nylon string geetar (that i still have)my first bass was a mid 80's Squier that i bought used from my friend Frank for $100 in 1989 (it was also his first bass)(i still have it..sorta)i also had a Gorilla "guitar" amp.2nd bass 1992 Ibanez Soundgear bought new.(what a piece of crap)3rd 1975 Fender Precision paid $320. (i still have it,and would never sell it.)since then i've bought and sold many basses some good,some bad,some ugly.

3.70's Plush Royal Bass 1060-S (great 100 watt 6L6 tube head "Tuck & Roll")also good for guitar
4.i have an empty Sunn 2X15 cab that i will set up for the Plush.
5.Sunn SB160 60 watt 1X15 combo(i play this at home)

My first ever bass: Washburn XB-200 p/j four string. Totally passive with rosewood fretboard and black paint.
Current fretted: Fender USA Precision Deluxe five string. Active with pao ferro and tobacco burst.

The Fender is the first bass with a precision pickup I've had since the Washburn. I loved the feel of it (at the time) but the pickups were so "economical" that I could hardly tell the difference when blending between them. I played with a guy who has a Yamaha P bass and have never liked the tone so I always avoided precision pickups. I'm sorry I stayed away for so long.

And my fretless (Bolin NS 5/1) is like another planet from the Washburn.

Compared to now?
It got sold to help pay for my first 64 T-Bird in the early 70's.
It can't be compared to what I play now except that I'd probably find it unplayable and wonder how the heck I played high school dances and the high school "Rock Music Club" 's concert(they actually gave us one entire class period and the whole school filled the auditorium!).

My first bass was a Steinberger copy by Cort, which I got in '88. Then I had a Profile P-bass copy, then a Gibson SG copy, then a Gibson Thunderbird, then a Washburn AB-20 (still have, trying to sell), then my Gobin A5, which I got a few years ago, and now my Lakland 55-02D.

I think the biggest jump was between the SG copy and the T-bird...

Bought a brand new Fender Precison in 1977 for $400 tax included. A sunburst with maple neck.

Sold it when I went to college.

Fast forward to mid 90's and I buy a 1975 Fender Precison with maple neck for $300. Still my only bass.

I bought my first bass, a 1965 Fender Precision Bass, for $350, and that included a Bassman 50 head and 212 cabinet of the same vintage. I didn't like the bass, and I hated the amp. Nonetheless, I sure wish some hoser hadn't stolen that P-Bass in 1980. I could sell it to offset the cost of two or three of my current basses:

Ibanex ATK-300 Korea model. I thought it was a beast. When I picked up a
Warwick, my eyes lit up, and when I bought a Roscoe, I knew Ihad found
"real" basses with great action. Had to move up the price range a bit thou...

A no name short scale bass in 1969. I think it may have been a Jason or an Eko...

Woot?! Eko?! I started with an Eko! It had a maple neck and plywood body, had really bad tone, but surprisingly quite decent sustain and action.

Now I play Schecter Elite-5. Damn happy with it

First bass was an Ibanez Blazer in a poxy burst. Now I have a heap of instruments, including an Ibanez Blazer in natural Ash.

My main basses are my Steinberger XL2, Status, Hohner B2V, Peavey T40's and my trusty Ibanez RS824

My first bass was a 90's black Epiphone Power Bass (has amazing tone for what was a $100 bass, used mind you)

After that was a white w/ black pick guard 2001ish MIA P-Bass. (was black, refinished by myself and my friends, and it actually came out amazing, not to gloat. )

I now happily play a black with white pickguard 2007 Rickenbacker 4003 and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
