hmmmm, 5th grade....it was a "Telstar" black. I don't remember anything about it but when I picked it out mom asked "don't you want to play the leads?" my answer, NO, I wanna play BASS!!!.....I guess that was 1977.

HA, this is fun reading - and a fun trip down memory lane. My first bass was a DDR-made (yup, from before the Berlin wall fell) P-bass copy. The neck looked - and felt - like it was made from a telephone pole sawed down the middle, but the bass was bright red and we had a ball playing cow-punk for some years. Since then I've had a Japan built Jazz Special (nice!), a Jazz made from Chandler parts (nice too!) and an P Deluxe V (hmmm...). They're all playing with somebody else today. I currently have a P from '75, but she hasn't been out of her case since 2004: that's when I got my Ibanez BTB 1005E Prestige, built '03 in Japan. I simply havn't put it down since I got it...
My first was a Washburn XB-100. It was real cheap, but I still have it and play it often. Now, I play a Fender standard P bass and a 51 Reissue P bass.
Mine was a Hohner tele type short scale and now I play a 2008 Fender American Standard P-Bass. I'm always looking on eBay to find another hohner like that.

My First Bass was a no name Hollow body bass sunburst.I leaned it on a pole at a party it fell over.Needless to say I made the jump to guitar player after that.Flash forward 10 years to 1985.Guitar Player ran an article telling Guitar Player if they want to make money play bass.I just became a Father my first of 3 and so I bought a Gibson EBO.Well singing bassist's do make more side work then a guitar player(discounting the truly gifted) and there has been no looking back,but I have had one eye open for a look alike ever since as now I am nostalgic for my youth
a stinger. still have it, but it just hangs on the wall now.might fix it up someday if its worth it.

early 90's (right before the soundgear) ibanez ct series pj 4 banger. I ripped the frets out, covered the board with CA, replaced the pickups with seymour duncan's (the one's with the 2 dip switches on the pickup). and put a cheezy paintjob with flying eyeballs on it. She lasted 6 years before I sold her.
