What would be your guilty pleasure bass?

I have five basses, with those five I have everything that I need or want. I have enough acoustic and electric guitars and more than enough mandolins. A full set of diatonic harmonicas, a midi keyboard and an arranger keyboard. All collected over a lifetime of making music. If I ever have crazy money I would probably buy a Nord keyboard as my guilty pleasure as I am nothing more than a hack on keys. But other than that I want nothing

A Spector neck-thru 4 string with preamp. I play indie and post-punk and Americana and when I had a Legend (that I loved) I got a large amount of side-eye. I'm too old to care about what anyone on earth thinks of my instrument but that does qualify it as a guilty pleasure.

I have spent the better part of a lifetime indulging myself, bass-wise (and a few other ways as well). At this point, probably a Marleaux Contra 5 string. Or a 4. I'm not gonna quibble.

Probably a Warwick fortress one masterman jazz. I had a fortress one P/J back in 2003 but it was stolen. Most buttery playing I’ve experienced with good ergonomics and electronics. I’m a total fender slut outside that.

I don't wanna sound like I'm bragging or gloating, but luckily, I have my dream bass. I was lucky enough to buy a used, single owner pre-Gibson Tobias six string, back in the late 80's, before they became the coveted collectors items they are now.

Now I will admit to always wanting a matching fretless, but never seemed to find one.

I guess for me, as far as a guilty pleasure is concerned, it would be nice to have a headless bass, or a fanned-fret bass, or a beautiful Ritter. Or any kind of fretless, for that matter, but truly, I am content with my one perfect bass.

I don't play in bands anymore. I only play a couple of times a week at church. I'm a confirmed 5 stringer, even though I own several basses with 4, 6, 7, and 12 strings.

I have no need for the aggressive rock tone that this bass has. It also weighs between 12 and 15 pounds, and is neck heavy.

These days, they cost upwards of $3K, which would be a ridiculous price to pay for a bass that wouldn't get played very much.

And I want one really badly.

Probably my most relevant guilty pleasure is my amp collection. I lost count as the population approached 60 . The only amp in my collection I have gigged is a GK 700RB/112 combo.

Still have a bucket list .

pretty much any bass I would want/own would be guilty pleasure…I have own a handfull, I know some ppl have many more but Im one of those weirdos that thinks that basses should be played and all of mine dont get enough time as it is much less have any more….that doesnt I dont want more…cause GAS is a real vice, I look, a lot

That’s how I interpret it. And by that definition, the really funky Japanese imports from the 1960s would definitely fit the bill. Give me a Tiesco or a Norma with a few too many pickups, way too narrow string spacing and hardware made out of an old pie plate! That’s a guilty pleasure!

My GAS list, on the other hand, is loaded with respectable, desirable instruments (which I also don’t really need).
