What would be your guilty pleasure bass?

I have a ss sterling stingray and enjoy it a lot. Mine needed a neck shim to get the action below 2mm, not sure if the cnc programming gives too deep a neck pocket or if mine was just off - but fair warning.

I routed a battery box and am currently running a nordstrand bigman (1 big singles in a mm housing) and underhill filter preamp - really fun to play with.

Full size stingray bodies are a lot less ergonomic for me, but the shorty is super comfortable

To me a guilty pleasure is knowing something is trash but liking it anyways. Take movies for example, I've seen a lot of the classics and appreciate them all (Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Searchers, The Hidden Fortress, The Caine Mutiny, Twelve O'Clock High, The Godfather, China Town, all the Stanley Kubrick movies, and so on and so on) but I also love the movie Capt. Ron. Have you seen it? It's great!

So to me, a guilty pleasure bass would not be something that costs the equivalent of a down payment on a house, it would be some low end "POS" that you really like for some reason. With that in mind, my guilty pleasure bass would be my used Peavey BXP 5 string. It is light, the neck feels good, sounds good, and looks good. I need to get more comfortable on a fiver so I can play it more. I own nicer basses and I know there are much, much nicer ones out there, but something about the Peavey is just right for me.

I thought guilty pleasure was supposed to be a thing you'd be ashamed to I admit you like. Not your Holy Grail. Am I confused about the basic premise once more? I may be the common denominator here.

This is also what I thought.
I guess a Ritter might be mine, just becuse of the extreme expense of it. And the fact that I’d undoubtedly look like a dork with one strapped on…..

I did once have this very cheap Yamaha fretless (in pink!), but I actually loved playing it,
and it sounded great with a Lollar classic pickup.

But, you know what? It earns its keep on gigs – just like any other bass I don't sell.

A nice carved upright, with an addition to our house so it wouldn't have to live outside. Or far more likely, a hollow body jazz guitar from Heritage or Gibson.

But I'm actually trending the other way and liking it: down to two basses now, both fretless fours.

I think I am going to get one this summer. I hope my wife's does not crack my noggin, but every time I play one of these basses, I love it.

You’ve been wanting one for a few years now. I timber that this what you really wanted but she bought you the 5HH version . Her heart was in the right place.

These a very nice basses. My EBMM version is my only 4 string. No desire for another . I had a Sterling version at one time. Absolutely no complaints about that bass. They do have to be cherry picked . But a good one is sure worth having on the stable. They work great for travel too.

I like looking at shiny things, but whenever I think about it, I realize I have everything I need, and could do better things with my spare $$$ (unless I could find the time to seriously take up the upright).
