I recently was awarded a check for 2k. I'm looking to buy a new bass but I'm not sure what I want to get. I love stingrays,Fender basses of all kinds. And dingwall is cool I'm open to many other brands aswell. I currently own an American pro jazz bass in sonic blue. I really want somthing that is going to cut through a mix well and bring the thunder. I'm not sure if I should buy new or used. Vintage or modern. What would you do?

Between $1950 and $2100 best I can find. Not sure where his beer money is coming from. He must be talking used.
I would buy another Ric 4003, either in walnut or midnight blue, and with the leftover cash I'd buy a bottle of Lagavulin scotch, a case of premium beer, and several sets of stainless steel round wounds.

How much is a RIC

You might want to go the power route.

As usual, I'm gonna be "that guy"...

Put it in your savings! You've already got a top-notch bass (unless it has a problem we don't know of)

Or perhaps grab some effects pedals you've had your eye on!

If I had that much extra cash, I'd buy a nice guitar or keyboard. I've been itching to learn a solo instrument, and learning either one can help you become a better musician (so I've heard)

You could pick up an American Standard Jaguar for less than $1600 and have some foldin' money left over. The ASJ has active/passive switching, and P/J pickups, allowing you to sound like a traditional Fender, or bring the thunder. I play mine with the P only in active mode, and it's amazing. I'm not a big Fender fan, either, so this was a big step for me.
