I love that movie. I've seen it a bunch of times. It did as good a job as it could compressing a pretty big story.

I wish we had Apple TV. The trailer looks good and I like dystopian sci-fi.

Along those lines, watched a Russian film from 1979 called "Stalker". In this case, a Stalker is a guide for clients, not the creepy or nefarious meaning of the word LOL. The Stalker is taking two men, a writer and a science professor, thru a hazardous waste-land to a restricted site known as the Zone. In it, there's supposed to be a room that grants a person's innermost desire.

Dystopian, sci-fi, philosophical, theological, arthouse, deep, slow paced. It really got me, but I'm sure it's not for everyone. Really enjoyed this film. Russian language, subtitled in English. Was on regular cable TV.

Watched it a few months ago, it's still pretty fresh in my memory. I think that overall I have liked it. It had some good cinematography and locations.

I've seen this in theatre when I was 16. Was very disappointed because the movie had almost nothing to do with a sci-fi novel The Roadside Picnic it was based on. Still, Andrey Tarkovsky cinematography was cool in it's own right.

After watching the movie, I did a little reading on it and Andrei Tarkovsky. He's a very well regarded filmmaker. I'll be looking around for his other works. Solaris (1972) was another I liked, also directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. There have been a few other Russian films, mainly sci-fi, I've enjoyed.

I understand about some films not equaling the novels. I feel that way about the film versions of Dune (Frank Herbert). Even the latest 2021 version doesn't compare. Just can't capture the depth of the novels.
That being said, to me, Dune (2021) is the best film version so far and I really enjoyed it for what it was. Looking forward to the 2nd film, scheduled for November this year. Already a trailer out.:

Fantastic show. So good. Excellent adaption of great books. I'm about to start the second episode. The first was great. Rashida Jones is great. I had no idea she was that good an actor. I'm gonna read the books again. It's such a good story.
