Whatcha watching?

Lol! I thought I was the only one who wasn’t thrilled with Dune! I’ve tried watching the one with Sting 3 times and I passed out in the middle each time.
I think that reading the book is actually a bit better because my mind does the visual and auditory heavy lifting - watching dune just robs it of all the fantasy, that's how I see it.

It doesn't help that you have this huge universe available but the newer movie just decided to revolve around the two houses and their drama or whatever it was. Waste, imho.

Well. At least it looked nice.

On another, unrelated hand... I'm still waiting for another android focused movie from Ridley Scott. I mean Alien. Totally meant Alien!

I quite liked the idea of Alien Covenant and found it to be interesting - not the xenomorph, that's been done to death and is boring, been better in the comics, too - but David... David is mwah! Chefs kiss. The bizzare self homo eroticism of him towards himself and the complete disdain for human life all wrapped around really weird experiments and genocide? I know that a lot of Alien fans did not like this one as much but I thought that most moviegoers and the discourse surrounding this movie has mostly missed the mark. And it showed in the ratings.

I thought it was great, however. I really dig Ridleys lifelong obsession with the idea of androids and I hope he makes as many weird, bizzare and gross movies about David or other wacky stuff. I hope, hope, hope we get to see a sequel to Covenant. I'm totally down for David being gross and creepy as hell.

I see you, Mr Scott
Your vision has been noticed and very much enjoyed ;)

Anyway... Today I saw a korean (I think?) movie called D War - Dragon War or some such. What a piece of shlock :roflmao:

Dune is a little like Ender's Game, or Catcher in the Rye, some people love it, other's loathe it.
Bladerunner. I've tried so many times to watch that movie. I can't do it. The new one too. Although it's impressive how well they replicated (get it? replicant?) the mind-numbing dullness of the original. Both movies are beautiful to look at but, my god, just awful.

I totally get it, but I'm on the other side. Love BD, love Dune, even the David Lynch version.

Speaking of dullness, I suspect a lot of people would dislike Bones and All because it is slooooooooow, but that's part of why I like it. There isn't much patience in cinema these days, it's a very undervalued quality in a film.

I can appreciate a slow movie. I think Pig with Nicholas cage is one of the best movies to come out in the last few years and it's super slow.

I love slow movies. Slow, dark and complex are my favourite kind of movies.

I just don't have the patience when its slow AND uninteresting.

I’ve tried a few times with that one, too. I just can’t do it. Incredibly dull.
