Whatcha watching?

Mountainhead on HBO Max. Really wanted to like it since it was written/directed by Jesse Armstrong (Succession), but it wasn't good. I usually enjoy anything that centers around miserable billionaires, but it was a plotless, confusing mess.

Bring Her Back is excellent. It’s uncomfortable and upsetting and every actors’ performance is fantastic. The story is suspenseful and unpredictable. Nothing is wasted or unnecessary. Every line of dialogue and every bit of buildup and backstory serves the story being told. There are jump scares but they’re appropriate, limited and effective. Not cheap and lazy. There’s no pandering to the dumber members of the audience that might not understand. They show with action instead of explaining with exposition. It’s so well made. This movie is great. It’s great.

Agreed. I loved it, and I usually dislike new releases. I want to see it again to try to pick up on details I missed to hopefully answer some of the questions I still have. This movie is not for everyone, though. Plenty of things to disturb most any casual viewer.

Regarding the violence, it was relatively minimal but effective. I'm still thinking about the kitchen scene where he feeds the kid. Oof.

Karate Kid Legends was entertaining. It was like any of the others really, except the kid already knew Kung Fu, before having to learn a little bit of Karate to defeat the ponytailed antagonist. It was pretty good.
I forgot about that movie, and didn't realize it was out now. For some reason, I thought it was later this year. Thanks for the recap and reminder. I'll check it out.
