I just popped into this thread and started reading from a few pages back, and.... wow, you folks really don't care for Wes Anderson movies.
His films have had several clearly defined stylistic elements for years now, so I wonder why those who don't like his other recent movies would go see more of them. My wife and I enjoyed "The Phoenician Scheme" very much, just as we did "Asteroid City," "The French Dispatch," "Moonrise Kingdom," and especially "The Grand Budapest Hotel." My stepson and his wife feel the same way about those films. Ah well, different strokes....
I guess I approach things differently than some of you: If I strongly dislike a particular entree, painting, author, restaurant, concert venue, or what-have-you..... I don't go back to experience more of the same.
Just 2 days ago, my wife and I went to see "The Life Of Chuck," and while I would not call it great or a masterpiece, we both liked it. It's an adaptation of a Stephen King novella, but not a horror story or a frightfest. There is an element of something that might fall into the category of "paranormal," but mostly it is a film with some heartwarming and through-provoking ideas; one that has more in common with other non-supernatural Stephen King stories made into movies, like "The Shawshank Redemption," or "Stand By Me." I would advise all members of the Wes Anderson NON-Fan Club to skip it.
