depends which sovtek muff you mean, and of course nobody who paid big bucks for a green russian 2 years ago is gonna say "gee the BBM sounds just as good" even if it does

i had the chance to a/b them with my own rig not long ago and honestly, i liked the BBM better. it may not rage like some muffs but there is a fine-grained character to the dirt that that is very much to my liking

Coming: Fuzzhugger AB Synth. Complete and total impulse purchase based strictly on this post I stumbled upon:

No idea on the Catalinbread. But I'm going to go ahead and suggest something else, the Fuzzhugger AB-Synth. The oscillation is stomp-controlled, and it really is a fantastic sounding fuzz on its own, too. It has a very wide range of oscillation pitches, including down into the deep bass ranges. The control was precise enough that I was able to more-or-less dial in whatever pitch of oscillation I wanted, which would come screaming back in whenever the decay between notes went below a certain threshold. Very awesome effect.

Going: Either my Sun Face or Dark Peppermint, whichever I like least.

Well, they don't sound like each other, really, at all, and I think the 442 sounds much better with dirt and has a more mid-focused sweep, while the GR is better at doing the envelope filter sound.

I had a feeling they were two different animals,...Thanks for confirming. I'm glad I didn't make any hasty decisions on selling the 442 to fund the GR which is still in transit.

I love how the 442 Red sounds with my Supercollider and my Boss SD-2 especially after the OC-2. On it's own the 442 sounds anemic which is why I went ahead and picked up a GR off the classies.

Seems like justification enough to keep both on my board. Hopefully the next thing to cross off my list will be an OLC Chunky Cheese.

I think I paid more for my BBM then I did for my green sovtek

I think the idea that it sounds like a green sovtek is misleading, a black Russian one sounds much closer [well duh] then the BBM.

I think the BBM is a really different animal, it has it's own sound like you say. It is a lower gain muff then most muffs are and can be a useful pedal.

The more I use it the more I like it. But I don't think I'll gig with one because I don't like the way it blends and I will not put a pedal with a blend in a blend:scowl: to get the blend I want.

I did request that, twice even, just to make sure! I need a noisemaker for my board because I don't like carrying around rare/expensive stuff to gigs that I only use for 3 seconds (read: Blue Ringer stays at home these days). Hopefully this will work. If not, well then I'll just drink some absinthe until it does.

Got a EHX BBM today and have a Boss FZ-2 being shipped to me tomorrow. So far Im in love with the Bass Big Muff. I really didnt want to like it, but man, it is a GREAT sonding little pedal.

With my Ric into the Pi into my Mesa just equals awesomeness

Hopefully the FZ-2 will bring some real variety to my board fuzz wise
