What's On Your Workbench?

Jose,
Nice work! Couple of comments and a question or two. I am really a fan of the MM 5 string in that position. I like what I can get from it and have an upcoming build with MM HH config. How does the P pup work out in combo? I tend to rely on the MM for more growl, especially with a preamp. Assuming the P pup does the nice bass work in the P sweet spot. Never saw a 5 string P pup. Where did you source that? Maybe I never found one because I never looked for one! haha Thanks in advance. Finish looks nice and deep. Solvent based or water based poly?
The problem for now is, that I can't get them in balance. I'll have to try experimenting with different pots. Haven't ordered new ones yet, have been busy. But I am really satisfied with both pickups. On the 5 string P I had 3 options: Get a cheapo from ebay, buy a 120$ SD or other "overpriced" pup, or have one custom made. As MPU (member here on this forum too) offered me one in the "mid price" range, I didn't hesitate a second :D
The poly is solvent based and the paint is from a car paint store, I don't remember the brand...

NOPE not so. . . .she has her own thread! I started out like a house on fire and had it a third done in 20 hours then work went sideways and my herniated neck started hurting and the gf was pouting and . . . .and . . .and . . . Tonight is a church meeting, tomorrow a half day of work then off for 5 to use some vacation time before I lose it. 30 more hours is what she gets (easy to say until I realized I have to learn to fret then dress a freboard, ain't never done that yet)

A pile of burl

Trying like mad to finish up a buckeye I started forever ago and a redwood burley triple J.. I have spent already three and half hours on the wiring for the J three volumes, active passive switch, mid shift 400-800, Aguilar OBP3 and a parallel/series push pull on the bass knob for the two pups closest to the bridge. My eyes are crossed..

Thanks for lookin! Cheers have an awesome week!!

I finally was able to get back to this project, I got a set of gfs crunchy rails, I'm using the bridge on my triple pickup build but I decided to use the neck pickup on this bass.

As for the switches I wanted to do a purely switch based wiring with a few tricks thrown in. (In no particular order) it's going to have a series/neck/parallel, a treble cut switch that only effects the neck in series, a series/split/parallel switch for the neck pickup, a fat switch, a bass cut switch that only effects the bridge pickup in parallel, passive diode distortion, mute switch(red toggle), stutter switch.

Got started wiring this up tonight,

I got the output jack, stutter switch, standby switch and the passive distortion switch wired, the black tape rectangle is something new I'm trying, I put a .18uf cap in series with the diodes so the low lows don't get distorted I'm not sure how it will work but we'll see.

@Will_White your electronics are hilarious :D and I mean that in the best way possible - I'd like to try one of those multi-option setups sometime and just might copy one of yours to see what's up... :)
Thank you, I agree that they are kind of hilarious. I have a sketched diagram in the quoted post, it doesn't include the Diode distortion or list cap values. If everything works like it should I'll make up a better diagram. Added: This atleast has a finite number of combinations, I could put every one if those switches on a pot and have continuously variable options ;), but I prefer switch flicking over knob twiddling.

EDIT: Slight setback, the series/split/parallel switch diagram I used was incorrect, I'll have to make a new diagram tomorrow, and rewire those two switches, I also replaced the black tape rectangle with an asymmetric set of diodes, I want to try the cap and diode combo in an outboard box first.

ADDED: Let it be known I can do a simple wiring scheme, 1 pickup, 1 switch, 1 cap, 1 output jack.

Still working on the other project, I might just forgo the pickup series/split/parallel switch since it's kind of crowding the main selector switch.

Not really on my workbench per se but @JIO asked for pictures of something I'm working on.

Its a solid body 4 string EUBG for playing arco, 35" or 36" scale, body is 25" long and will be arched similarly to @JIO's EUB. I'm thinking of using pine for the body wood and either oak or maple with an ebony fretboard. I plan on back-lighting the "sound hole" with flicker flame LEDs. The tailpiece and "sound hole" cover are trivets I found at an estate sale for a couple bucks. Here's an actual picture of them,

the little bit of tearout on the bottom will never be seen when installed. I have modified my tooling to eliminate the potential for tearout on future covers
