Do you need a second mortgage? My sled was made out of plywood and angle aluminum I had on hand, but even if you had to go buy the plywood and aluminum it should be less than about $70 US.

Well, then you need to figure out something simple and useful that you can build for the house out of MDF. A small shelving unit for the laundry room? Then use the leftover MDF scraps to build a router planing fixture.

I've been going through boxes of stuff from my late father-in-law's workshop and came across this old marking gauge. Somebody had over-tightened the screw, causing it to split the block across its width, then "fixed" it by driving in a couple of screws without pre-drilling the screw holes, leaving the gap jacked open by ~1mm and causing it to split again in the other direction. A couple of little pieces chipped off the threads of the wooden thumbscrew, but it's still pretty sound.

Now fixed a little more legitimately. I did put the screws back in, but this time with proper clearance holes so they're actually pulling the joint together instead of keeping it apart. Should be good for another hundred years or so.

I can't find anything about a tool manufacturer called E. C. Brown, so I assume that was a previous owner.

Yeah, I would assume E.C. Brown was the guy who made that tool. It looks very much like a Crown marking gauge, so he probably modeled it after that and just built his own. Pretty common thing back then. Really cool tool, I'd cherish that. Props for putting it back into service. :thumbsup: :cool:

So my workbench is actually all cleaned off. I spent about 2 hours last night cleaning up my work space (it's not a shop, so I won't call it that) and getting everything organized again so that I could actually do things. But for whatever reason, when I tried to do things, I just had zero desire to do it. I started to cut the fret slots on the Tele fretboard, but I just couldn't find any desire to do it. I got them all marked, but putting a saw to it just wasn't happening. I still need to build some sort of router sled jig thing for flattening those cutting boards that my planer sniped, but again, zero desire to start that too. In the end, I just gave up and went in the house and watched about 4 episodes of "Mysteries of the Abandoned". :rollno: :thumbsdown:
I really need to figure out why I have zero drive. :meh:

Maybe because you live in Washington state and its late fall and dark most of the day.
I love it here but it can get to some including myself at times.
The long damp dark.

Yeah, for sure. By the time I leave the office it's already dark. We're quickly approaching the point where it'll also be dark when I leave in the morning. :meh:
I'll be on your neighbor island Thanksgiving weekend. Wife and I are gonna go hide in Roche Harbor for my birthday. Anything I have to see while there? Where's the good food?

Also, "Long Damp Dark" could be a great name for a grunge band. :roflmao:

I try to avoid San Jan Island but my job makes me go. My favorite greasy spoon closed as well as some other places i have liked but Bakery San Juan has some killer pizza and baked goods… really good cookies!!
Cattle Point on the south tip is beautiful as well as a few beaches on the way.
Really, there’s lots of great scenery around the island.

My trick is gonna be finding food on Thanksgiving Day. Something tells me the whole island will be shut down.
Any advice?

Kings market (grocery store)will probably be open in the day, maybe web search for some restaurants on the island and start making calls. Otherwise pack in some food if your staying at a place with a kitchen. I bet there will be a few restaurants open. sorry I don’t have any suggestions, my going out has been pretty limited since I moved out here, I’ve become a home body other than work.
