What's On Your Workbench?

BodyPieces.jpg

This will be the body of a 12 string Stratocaster at some point.

[QUOTE="My question is, what should the hight difference be from the top of fret 1 and the bottom of the groove for each string on the nut?
Is .030” a good target?… I thought I read that somewhere.
Thanks in advance:)

Yep 0.0030″ to 0.0045″, or 0.076mm to 0.11mm

YMMV.....Nice bass there with reversed P's. great color. doing a similar pickup configuration--On my bench now is this once blank Alder J body off ebay and an old 80's Fender licensed "ESP" j neck . the body it is just miniwax red-mahogany. trying to match the headstock a bit better..i used a blowtorch on that for effect ..never tried MM pickups either before.

Thanks, I'm still waiting on parts to come in. I expect the bridge today, and the neck on Friday. The neck is the important part - I need to make a routing template for the neck cavity, and confirm the tuner holes which have already been drilled. Then I can order tuners. I have a few more parts coming, like strings, a string retaining bar, and I'll need to order a neck plate and jack plate. And finally a pickguard, pickups, and wiring/controls. I may just get a loaded pickguard. In any event, I'll have to rout the pickguard for the neck anyway - I never see any pickguards made for a 12 string strat.

Looking forward to playing Mr Tambourine Man.

The late '60s Fender XII is considered to be a very good 12'r - it was overshadowed by RIC 12'rs then, but Bobby Z played it!

Fender released a tribute in '19 called the "Alternate Reality XII"

Which bridge will you use @mapleglo ? The Gotoh is a very nice piece (obviously), but there are lots of Gotoh knock-offs out there that (from what I’ve read) don’t work nearly as well…

I really like the mm style pickups especially blended with other pickups, passive and in parallel. Im not a fan of batteries so I avoid active setups but an mm blended with other pickups does me just fine:)
I now have 2 basses with an mm paired with split coils, another one paired with a single J and a jazz bass i converted to 2 mm style pickups. The jazz bass doesn’t do it for me and I’m pretty sure (after testing placements on my test bass) that it’s because the bridge pickup is too close to the bridge and the neck pickup is too close to the neck. After I finish my current project, that jazz will be back on my bench to fill the bridge slot and center that pickup 3 1/2” from the g saddle. That seems to be the best place for it, at least for me.

It just came in today:

Individual intonation for each of the 12 strings, and thru-body for all 12 strings with single 12-hole ferrule.
