Hmmm …

I have been playing since 1968, I have owned close to 100 basses, 4 string, 5 string 8 string 10 string, active, passive, vintage, new, etc ...

They are all tools … some better than others.

many were my number one bass for a while … but the number one keeps changing

To get a strength in a bass you often also create a weakness so each bass has strengths and weakness unique to itself

I’ve had this P bass about a year, and just put the Jazz neck on it recently. The neck is perfect- a happy medium between the P and the skinny Ibanez necks I started on. The simplicity of the P pickup just fits me perfectly.

I can’t say I’ll never get another bass, but I could see this being my main player for a long time. It plays all my gigs, and I have no desire to get another.

My parts bass "Plucky" is turning 27 next year. It was originally an early 90s MIJ CAR Jazz, and I've tinkered it to death. First it was replacing the pickups, but I couldn't stop there. Every year something(s) gets replaced. The neck got replaced. Eventual the body too. The only pieces left from the original is the neck plate and bolts (I think of it as the stone in stone soup). And I think it's the original bridge.

Technically it's not the same instrument any more, but it sort of is.

It ain't my #1 by any stretch, but I will NEVER sell it. Built-in headphone jack, super light, breaks down small, has staggeringly killer tone...Aria Sinsonido.

Just curious. I have had many over the years, and just thinking what it may be if I were to have only one to fit all.... Hmm...

That would be my late '82/early '83 (determined from dates on original parts) Made in the US Fender Jazz in Olympic white. It has a 1-piece maple neck with white binding, a white pickguard, white pickup covers, white strat-type knobs. I also put on some white tapewound LaBella strings on it (pic is with DR Black Beauties) and a wide white-leather strap. Bought it in 1985 in absolutely mint condition. It has a 60's shallow C-shape neck with 7.25" radius which is exactly what my 1965 Jazz had (stolen in 1976). I often refer to her as my "White Lady".

What are the plexigrass pieces behind the pickups? A P version of a ramp?

i have 6 players, including a J and P: but it would be one of my PJs, i'm sure. Js are predictable, Ps are limited. PJs have the advantage. include a VBTT for extra points. no batteries for the win!

My 2011 MIA Fender Jazz Deluxe. I ended up removing the preamp the original N3 pickups. I set it up passively with Lindy Fralin Pickups, over wound 8% to get more mids and more lows. I have it wired with a separate tone and volume control for each pickup. I also swapped the original black pickguard for a pearl white one. I have used it for gigs at casinos and outdoor festivals and for recording music for several television shows (American Pickers on The History Channel, The DEED on CNBC, The Aquarium and The Zoo on Animal Planet) and several others.

The bass also has sentimental value because it was purchased new as a gift from my wife for Valentine's Day 2012.
